Crown Prince to inaugurate tournament

BHADRAPUR, Feb. 5: His Royal Highness Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev is scheduled to inaugurate the 15th Tribhuvan Memorial Gold Cup Knockout Football Tournament at local Mechi Stadium on Thrusday.All preparations for the tournament organised by the Mechi Stadium Reconstruction Committee have been completed, said committee chairperson Tika Ram Dhakal.

Altogether 14 teams including nine from Nepal, four from India and one from Bangladesh are taking part in the tournament that ends on February 19.The tournament was first held in 2024 B.S. but had been stalled since 2048 B.S.Under the first phase of the reconstruction of the stadium the surrounding wall and two iron entrance gates were constructed and the main pavilion painted, it is stated.The stadium had suffered extensive damage as a result of the storm that swept through Jhapa district in 2053 B.S.
