Kojima's complain cautions wrongdoers

By A Staff Reporter

KATHMANDU, Feb. 23: Shin Kojima of Saitama Ken has had both good and bad experience while visiting Nepal a few months ago. It was his maiden trip to Nepal and was impressed by the its natural beauty and the simplicity and hospitality of the Nepalese people.

But all his impressions turned bad on his flight home by the Royal Nepal Airlines flight on 13 November 2002.Kojima was carrying Nepalese currency worth Rs. 595 as a souvenir, but a policeman at the Tribhuvan International Airport snatched them away despite his plea that he was taking them home as a souvenir. Kojima, however, did not remain quiet. He complained about the incident and the behaviour of the policeman to the Royal Nepalese Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

The embassy acted promptly and wrote back to the officials in Nepal about policeman Madan Lama's behaviour that had blemished the image of the country. The authorities here took department action against Lama and recovered the money, which they sent to Kojima.

It was a rare occasion in Nepal of the wrongdoer getting punished and the wrong being corrected. This was feasible due to the initiative taken by the Royal Nepalese Embassy in Tokyo, minister counsellor at the embassy Mohan Krishna Shrestha and other staff. This was also made possible by the seriousness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Kojima was glad to hear that he would get his souvenir back. He has thanked the embassy and the government of Nepal for taking his case so earnestly.
