Beni Fair opens, aims to promote tourism

MYAGDI, Jan. 15: Minister for Physical Planning and Works Narayan Singh Pun today inaugurated the three-day 'Beni Fair' organised with the objective of promoting domestic tourism in Myagdi district through publicity for places in the district which are important from the point of view of art, culture and tourism.

On the occasion, Minister Pun said that other districts should also take a cue from this beneficial programme undertaken by Myagdi.

At the programme, he announced an assistance of Rs 300,000 on his behalf to the social service fund constituted under the chairmanship of former District Development Committee president Krishna Prasad Dhungana for the assistance of people in the district displaced by Maoist violence. The local development officer is a member of the fund.

Various offices based in the district have put up separate stalls at the fair jointly organised by the Myagdi District Officers' Club and Myagdi Jaycees, Beni, at the initiative of the Myagdi District Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Various materials for raising public awareness in agriculture, forestry and health related matters are on display at the fair.

A folk song competition was also held on the occasion under the joint aegis of the Officers' Club and Myagdi Jaycees.

Chief District Officer Badri Nath Ghimire said all the proceeds from the fair would be deposited in the District Social Service Fund and spend in aid of the Maoist affected people.
