Huge Buddha statue in Lumbini soon

BUTWAL, March 8: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman of Lumbini Development Fund Kuber Prasad Sharma has said that the preliminary discussion has been initiated to construct the highest Buddha statue in Lumbini to spread the message of peace and promote tourism.

Talking to reporters in Butwal today he said though there is no provision of constructing such statue in the Master Plan of Lumbini we have forwarded the idea of constructing the highest Buddha statue.
He said the 250 to 300 feet high Buddha statue will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 300 to 400 million and will be completed within five years.

He said the peace talks would not be disturbed even without the participation of the major political parties.

Minister Sharma said politics of weapons and peace process is long process and this time the CPN, (Maoists) have come with good intention therefore there should be understanding with them.
Meanwhile in Palpa, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman of Nepal Hariyali Party Kuber Sharma has said talks process has proceeded ahead with the CPN-Maoist but he believed it might take some time to bring the Maoists who are holding arms into the process of ballot.
Addressing an interaction programme organised by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) Palpa district branch here today, he accused the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML of emptying the state’s treasury and ruining the national economy thereby bringing the country to such a sorry pass through corruption.He also charged the present big parties have tried to upset the peace talks.
FNJ Palpa district president Jhapendra Gahire presided over the programme.
