Khotang team meets PM

KATHMANDU, Mar. 21: A delegation of Khotang district met with Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand and requested naming as 'King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya Highway' the 95-km long Gaighat-Diktel, the North-South Sagarmatha Highway.

The delegation demanded Rs. 1 billion and 100 million from His Majesty's Government for the immediate completion of the highway.

The delegation included central member of RPP (Rastrabadi) Parashuram Rai, Madan Krishna Hada, Dr. Girija Shankar Rajbanshi, Sitaram Rai, Ratan Rai, Prem Rai, Baburam Neupane, Devbikram, Bishnu Rai, Dan Bahadur Rai, and Narayan Rai.s


Elders urge to stop US war against Iraq

KATHMANDU, Mar. 21: Thirteen members of the National Assembly and representing the CPN-UML have in a joint press statement here today demanded the sector concerned to immediately stop the military action carried out by the us against iraq and compensate it for the damages incurred.
Stating that the military action on Iraq has added momentum and gravity to the primary inter-differences at the world level, the members have said that the action is against UN Charter and international laws.

No country has the right to attack another country in the name of establishment of democracy, the statement said adding that the attack has created a big danger to every sovereign and independent country in the world.

Those issuing the joint statement are Mahesh Mani Dixit, Bachaspati Devkota, Devraj Ghimire, Uttam Kumar Mahat, Lalit Kumar Basnet, Srimaya Thakali, Ranganath Joshi, Laxmi Das Manandhar, Devendra Ghimire, Bir Bahadur Singh, Goma Devkota, Biswasara Dahal and Kashinath Adhikari.
Also, the joint meeting held here today of the seven communist parties group condemned the action carried out by the United States against Iraq.

Taking part in the meeting were representatives from CPN (Unity Centre-Masal), CPN-(Malema), CPN(Marxist), CPN(United), Socialist Movement Nepal, (CPN-Male) and Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party.


US reforms visa procedures

KATHMANDU, Mar. 21: The U.S. Department of State has unveiled a new initiative 'Secure Borders: Open Doors' to streamline the visa process for applicants at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world "We want to ensure the visa application process is straightforward for people who want to come to the U.S. to study, visit and conduct business and that it prevents the entry of those who would do us harm," said Assistance Secretary of State for Consular Affairs.

"Heightened concerns about security in the wake of the September 2001 terrorist attacks and subsequent U.S. government reorganisation to address homeland security have led to changes in the visa policies, said a press statement of American Centre, Emabssy of the United States.
It will utilise a new web site (www. United States Visas.gov) and a customisable brochure. The initiatives' materials, which will be translated into local language, include step-by-step instruction applying for visa with special emphasis on the three main categories of visitors: business, education and tourists.


CIAA files case against police officer

KATHMANDU, Mar. 21 : Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against Deputy Superintendent of Police Kedar Bahadur Karki and police Inspector Rajan Shrestha at the Special Court Anamnagar, Kathmandu today on the charge of corruption of submitting fake educational certificates for promotion and appointment purposes.

Karki and Shrestha had submitted fake certificates for the purpose of appointment and promotion.
The Commission has So far filed cases against 90 persons on the charge of submitting fake certificates.
