Dynamism Personified with many Firsts
Mrs. Ambika Shrestha, educated in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, caused quite a stir with her modern ideas after she was married into the orthodox family of Dwarika Das Shrestha in 1955. She came out of her home and worked with USIS in 1959 and then as Managing Director of Kathmandu Travel & Tours, one of the first travel agencies in Nepal, which was started by her husband. After her husband’s death in 1992, it was her task to complete his vision of building a grand heritage hotel, which she did by completing the final wing of what it is today. Consul of Spain to Nepal, Managing Director of Nepal Treks and Natural History Expedition, President of Dwarika’s hotel and just became member B.O.A.C. forum for Asia... with so many feathers in her cap, Mrs. Shrestha certainly is a busy, outstanding and renowned lady. A Social Worker by nature, she is President of the Federation of Business and Professional Women. In spite of a whole day’s hectic schedule, she manages to squeeze out precious time for music and art. Passionate about classical music, be it Nepali, Indian or Western; Mozart, Belayat Khan, Ravi Shanker or Colonial Cousins, all are her favorites. She has a zeal for opera, theatre and a fondness for reading as well.
