| Great Issue for IT Maniacs
The last issue (Vol 4 No1) was a great one. I say that because it was indeed a very comprehensive coverage of the IT sector. Almost all columns and write-ups – Corporate, Tourism, Entertainment, to name a few – were based on information technology. The issue also came just before the IT fair, CAN Info-Tech 2002, which made it all the more relevant. In fact, the issue can be taken as a preview to the fair. Not to forget the interview with Lochan Lal Amatya, the President of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), which provided the issue more value and weight. IT Mania Uncensored was indeed a treat for the ever-growing number of IT maniacs in the country. -ray543@hotmail.com Eye-Opener Interview The main interview (BA Jan) with Ram Thapa, recently appointed Royal Nepalese Consul in Northwestheinphalia for Cologne, Germany, is an eye-opener for the Nepalese business sector looking to do business in Germany. One prominent issue Thapa brings to light is that the Nepal– German trade potential is still not fully tapped. Although Nepal has been exporting its products to Germany, the volume is not sufficient, points out Thapa. The Nepalis private sector must heed these words and go all out to explore the German and other markets worldwide so as to enhance the country’s economic status. -eflame@mail.com.np Stimulating Cover Story This is in reference to your cover story (BA, December, 2001). On a larger perspective, your story left no stone unturned to cover each and every aspect of the global trade body, WTO. On the one hand, it reflects the imbalance of power in the WTO system, due to which developing countries’ concerns have, as usual, largely remained unheard in the run up to the recently concluded Doha meet. On the other, despite the seriousness and legitimacy of the demand made by these countries to address the implementation issue prior to initiating a new round of multilateral trade negotiations, attempts are being made to systematically sideline the issue. This has cruelly exposed the iniquitous nature of multilateral trading system. I look forward to such type of stimulating write-ups in coming days. -Bhola Dulal Good but Not Complete It refers to your exclusive report on Advertising Business (BA, Jan, 2001). Your investigative report on advertising business on the background of world wide economic recession was able to project the sombre picture of advertising scenario in the Nepalis context. However, it has simultaneously failed to echo the voices of advertisers and media and their actual circumstances which makes the report somewhat incomplete. In overall, it carried a sense for which it was structured. I suggest that you carry more of such reporting on such sort of issues which has played a pro-active role in business sector. -Sunandan Pokharel Appreciative Attempt This is with reference to the cover story IT Mania Uncensored (BA,Jan, 2002). As information technology (IT) is regarded as the major break through of the 21st century and technological innovations are being made at a break-neck speed, your story in this light was indeed relevant and informative. Your bid to supply the information as acurate and detailed as possible about the gradual development of IT in Nepal was indeed persuasive. I enthusiastically wait such story on the issue which carries global concern. -Sanat Acharya |
