Complete Coverage Your main story on the WTO (Vol 3 No 12) was outstanding. The coverage was very comprehensive. In fact, I don’t think that such a wide coverage of the issue has been attempted in one go by any domestic publication. Hence your endeavour must indeed be commended. From defining the World Trade Organization and enlisting the members of the organization, you went on to associate the WTO with agriculture, define Nepal’s own stand here as well as portray Nepal’s demands with WTO. This apart, you also projected the gains from WTO and the reason why we must hurry to acquire membership of the organization. The interview with Prachanda Man Shrestha, Chief of WTO Cell and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, Industries and Supplies and your Opinion Poll column gave the story more depth and put it in the right perspective. The issue was indeed very well covered and enlightning. We look forward to more such coverage in days ahead. -Keshav Adhikari Some Comments Some Compliments Business in Nepal is growing and developing day by day. The main role for it goes to media and business magazines like Business Age that gives us knowledge about business, its role in economic development etc. In fact, business magazines take over 50 percent of the credit on development of business activities in Nepal. Due to regular publication of such magazines, people are aware of monthly outputs of business, all the new products in Nepalese market are mentioned to the point and coming products are also dealt with. The information is given in simple language which is another good aspect. However, being business magazine, I feel it must only be concerned with business activities, BUT it is not. An example for that can be your last issue (BA Vol 3 No 10) where marwaris were criticized. I would like to suggest to the writer of the article that all people are not of same behaviour as she thinks. -Dipendra Rawal Excellent Inner-View The Inner-View with LIC (Nepal) Ltd. Managing Director, Bikash C Bose, (BA, December 2001), was a very lively one. Bose not only shed light on the company’s capital and shareholding of LIC India and Vishal Group in the joint-venture, but also talked about the factors that prompted LIC India to come to Nepal. It was also interesting to learn about the products the company was planning to introduce in the country. Above all, Bose believed that the Nepali market had potential for insurance business. This is good new for more JVs could come into the country. Looking forward to more of such interviews in forthcoming issues. -Bishnu Karki, Get Priorities Right I think you are going a little off beat. I say that because you are, of late, not giving coverage to such important areas as the stock market, IT and banking sector. Even when you dry to include these sectors, the attempt is very feeble. On the other hand, it is noticeable since the last few issues that you carrying hordes of write-ups on management. And most of the time, the sense those articles portray do not relate to situations in Nepali companies. Also the health column keeps disappearing and then appearing again. I therefore suggest that you get your priorities right. I am sure the readers of Business Age will appreciate articles on the above mentioned issues over management tips that you provide every month. eflame@mail.com.np Focus on Corporate I think you Corporate column has left much to be desired. Talking of your last issue (BA, Dec 2001), the column gives little insight into the company, Godavari Village Resort. The story is more like a promotional campaign. The rags to riches story of the resort’s managing director, Shridhar Pd. Acharya, was, however, very interesting. He has relayed that through hard work, anything and everything is achievable. Coming back to the column, though, I think more thought must be given to put in new ideas to make the story more readable. -Chandra Lal Amatya, |
