TITTLE TATTLE

Tittle Tattle

On May 11, India received the dubious distinction of turning into billionaire in terms of population. For many of its small neighbours the day of the billion is time for reflection. Tattler hopes India will submerge her bulk in a sea of neighbourly cooperation.

Do we have a chauvinist in the fifth column who labels feminists as femi-nazis! Perhaps it has yet to dawn on him that so called feminists here are not the bra burning variety. The ‘feminists’ here are very well aware of what a family means and are fighting for equal rights. Had it not been for the courageous bunch, the likes of those who mouth femi-nazis would still be lording over the females of their household and holding them within the confines of the four walls, mired in ignorance; and extolling their virtuosity and ‘devi’ like qualitities. Mere mouthing of superfluous words does not an equal society create. Wake up and get real!!

Tattler overheard an audience saying how a VVIP, must be having a hard time acting as chief guest when it was way past his evening drinking time. And it was a sight to see, when this man’s face lit up like a 1000 watt bulb, when finally a glass of champagne was handed over to him hours after the programme started. Being a chief guest can sometime be pure torture, right?

The death anniversary of Madan Bhandari, UML’s late General Secretary, yesterday was a low-key affair for the UML and its split away group, the ML. Remember the UML seven years ago — a ball of fire , ready to kill and die — and now. What a difference seven years has made. UML may have thought ‘Let be gone be bygone’. Certainly, time is the best healer, no?
