Miss Nepal 2000 beauty pageant started bang on time, perhaps one of the very few rare occasions when the audience were not kept awaiting. Rightly, the organizers did not bother to have a chief guest. A good trend to set and follow.

Peaceful protest, yes. Violence/disturbance, no. Police action at last week’s pageant evening was justified. Lila Mani Pokharel and his ultra-leftist women brigands who protested to achieve their own vested political interests should know that they cannot violate others right to achieve their own. Under a democracy, one has to live and learn, even the leftist!

A MCP, obviously shaken by the voice of women for their property rights, and another voice protesting beauty pageants (adult one), wrote something to the effect that where women are, there has to be some hue and cry. Well, mister, in case you did not notice, women here are a suppressed lot by your kind and they must use their voice and get back their god given rights snatched away by the men. As for them protesting on issues like beauty pageants, they are only expressing their opinion!

It is good to hear Nepalese officials are reacting after a news appeared in this weekly regarding PM’s visit to India. But a little bird informed Tattler, it was embassy officials who had to nudge our people here to wake up to facts! But still, better AWAKE than asleep.

Also like we already said PM should not be defensive of what he said during run-up to election. Getting more from India is more important than making a pseudo-macho stand against it.
