State Minister for Information and Communication Govinda Bahadur Shah formally inaugurated the strategic alliance between the two business houses by lighting the  Panas at a programme organized to mark ‘The Millennium Alliance’.

The joint effort of Chaudhary Group and Crompton Greaves will contribute in developing infrastructure in hydro power and telecommunications sector which will usher development in Nepal, Chaudhary Group President and Managing Director Basant K Chaudhary said while addressing the gathering.

Speaking on the same occasion, K. K. Nohria, Chairman and Managing Director, Cropmton Greaves, said that the alliance will “explore possibilities of the commodities which can be produced in Nepal and be exported to India.”

Crompton Greaves India and Chaudhary Group on the occasion of His Majesty King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev’s 55th birthday presented a Time Division Access Point to Multi-Point (TDMA-PMP) system to Nepal Telecommunication Corporation. The system developed by Cromption Greaves is a digital radio which also includes the digital switch to provide a total solution both for switching and connectivity, it is learnt.

This system caters to the rural, low density, semi-urban and other areas with growing subscriber requirements. It is appropriate and cost effective to cater to 356 scattered and clustered subscribers located in an area of 20 to 30 kilometers radius around the base station. It can also be deployed in conjunction with any other transit and tandem switching system for connectivity to the public switch telephone network.

The TDMA-PMP system is believed to be very useful in the Nepalese context where the need for fast, easy, low cost phone connection between the local exchange and subscribers is more critical in rural areas. “This system may be the answer for a country like Nepal with varied topographical terrain,” Chet Prasad Bhattarai, General Manager of Nepal Telecommunication Corporation said.

Chaudhary Group’s President and Managing Director Binod Chaudhary, while delivering a vote of thanks, said that an Indian corporate giant like Crompton Greaves can provide the linking bridge between the two countries for  economic development. “We are indeed proud to be associated with Crompton Greaves,” he said.
