New millennium at Annapurna

-By A Staff Reporter

Hotel De L’ Annapurna brought in the new Millennium on 31st December 1999, with celebrations galore at the Poolside lawn based on the “Global village theme”.

The whole ambiance of the show was the synthesis of the old when it meets the new, the cultural changes since the years bygone till the end of the century when we are stepping into the new Millennium.

We created scenes from yesteryears, like people in traditional costumes alongwith folk song/dance sequence, said a press release issued by the Hotel.

People thus portrayed were from various ethnic groups in Nepal, such as the Tharus, Rai’s Magar’s, Tamang’s, Newar’s etc.

As per the theme, the fun filled evening included Gourmet food from around the world, games, ethnic shows and entertainments, which was the fusion of the east and the west.

The ambiance of the whole show was very effectual and lively. The idea of fun and enjoyment was very eminently put across by making the guests part of the show itself by making them participate in games, songs and dances.

The fun filled evening was  attended with 350 members belonging to the upper echelons of the society.

All the guests were welcomed by Panchakanya girls with flower buds at the entrance of the Hotel. This was also accompanied by Panche Baja, a traditional Nepalese band.

At the beginning of the programme an audio-visual show about Nepal with glimpses of Royalties, Temples, Mountains, Flora and faunna was also presented.

On the occasion, a fashion parade reflecting Nepalese culture and ethnic dresses were also organized.

The only lady musical group in Nepal, Sparkle Band, also presented popular Nepali folk tunes. Others who joined the jam session with their presentation were Bajra and Robin & Looza. It continued till the new dawn of the new Millennium.
