TITTLE TATTLE

Tittle Tattle

NTV celebrated its fifteenth year with a huge gathering and displayed much of its dirty linen in public-  not that they were secrets but the members of the organisation could easily have thrashed out their personal differences in private instead of making their debate a public spectacle. Or is this what communication is all about?

***

With the announcement of Ram Chandra Poudel taking over as Deputy Prime Minister and Communications Minister, there was much rattling in the media sector on what changes the new man at the helm would bring about. Tattler saw at least one politically appointed chairman of a government media organisation, making a dash to the new minister’s house, perhaps wanting to make sure he will not fall with the fallen minister. Key garney?

***

The effort of the traffic cops in trying to bring some semblance of discipline in the chaotic streets of Kathmandu is praiseworthy. But they won’t do this by making the already narrow streets narrower and more crowded with road marks. But maybe this is a good way of showing that they are working, even if it means a driver has to putting all his or her skills to use while negotiating through such narrow paths!

***

Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai seems to be one laid back character. After so much fuss for so long, all he comes up with is one single change in his cabinet. If this is style, does “after some time’ mean a whole five long years?

***

In the meantime, it must be NC party president G.P. Koirala and his close supporters who must be doing all the counting of days till the next session of the Parliament. After all Bhattarai had said he will step down then right? But to believe the words of a politician, wouldn’t it be the heights of naivity?

***

At a time when none less than the powerful students’ wing of the ruling Nepali Congress, the Nepal Students Union has been demanding the sacking of Purna Bahadur Khadka as Home Minister, does his ouster from the other portfolio he holds, namely Communication, mean he will be banished altogether from the cabinet? At least Khadka must be keeping his fingers crossed.
