Artist of the month

The most recent exhibition in Hotel de L’Annapurna is the eighth one in the sequence of featuring one artist a month. It featured the talented artist Dr. Prakriti S. Rana. The exhibition titled “Twilight Offerings” and was held at the poolside from 23rd to 25th February.

Dr. Rana is by profession an agriculturist and has studied art.  He has participated in numerous painting exhibition held at USIS Gallery and NAFA art exhibition.


For women’s rights

A National Consultation on Beijing + 5 was held February 29. The event was organised by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Opening the session, Saraswati Menon - DRR (P) UNDP stressed on the importance of involving all sections of society to bring about gender equality.  Dr. Suman Tuladhar presented the Beijing + 5 review presentation, that is in the process of being prepared. Guest speaker Chitra Lekha Yadhav, Deputy Speaker - House of Representatives, said that the women should stand united for an equitable society. Chief guest Kamala Pant, Minister of State, Ministry of Women and Social Welfare elaborated on women’s equal rights and said it is being confused with inheritance rights only, that is meeting with much resistance. A group interactive session was organised that was aimed at bringing forth new ideas, fresh inputs to the report.


Qatar Airways’ computerized departure

With a view to provide quicker and more efficient services to passengers on departure at Tribhuvan International Airport, Qatar Airways has decided to install Computerised Departure Control System from 01 March 2000.

In order to ensure satisfactory operation of new system Qatar Airways has commenced training programme for Royal Nepal Airlines’ staff who handle Qatar Airways flights and Qatar Airways-GSA staff from 17th February 2000 till 28th February 2000.

Presently, Qatar Airways operates daily services from Kathmandu to Doha with onward connections to London Munich and Gulf/Middle-East countries. The daily service to/from Kathmandu, Qatar Airways provides 6000 seats on each direction per month.
