EDITOR'S NOTE

The recent statements of Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai at Parsa have, once again, brought him to the fore of unnecessary criticisms. Bhattarai who is notorious for making nonsensical statements enjoys the controversies that he generates in this manner. His vulgar sense of humor always prompts him to blurt out stupid remarks. Since he does not know the real nearing of responsibility as he had no responsibility to bear in his whole lifetime he has not developed the spirit of making responsible statements. Encouraging his constituents to bribes, grafts, thefts and all kinds of crimes, perhaps, he has not understood the seriousness of his advice to his voters in Parsa. It is said he even urges his cronies at Singh Durbar and Baluwatar to make all the hay they can while he is shining. In such a situation how is one to believe that Bhattarai, the prime minister will take any steps to curb corruption. And how will he take the country towards progress and economic development if he encourages corruption and shields the criminals.

Some people who are highly benefiting in Bhattarai's regime have started defending him saying that he made those statements in light vein. He was not at all serious. If that be the truth, does he deserve to lead the nation? Where will the country head if it is led by a person who supports crimes and corruption, even as a joke. It is high time, the people, the parliamentarians and the Nepali Congress chief also took serious note and did something without delay. We do believe our foreign friends, donors and all the international community have not failed to observe the caliber and talent of the man who is at the helms of affair in Nepal. Where is he taking the poor people and the hard found democracy. God only can answer.

Bandhs always have undesirable repercussions, whether social, political or economic. Since they have not been able to make any impressions upon the ruling parties, who do not care what happens to the economy, if there is a Bandh, it is not advisable to resort to Bandhs. Any political party calling for a Bandh will be doing only disservice to the people and the country. Corrupt and nonperforming governments must be thrown out of power. But that must be done in a constitutional and peaceful manner. Strikes and Bandhs in a poor country like Nepal will only aggravate the miseries of the poor by pushing the economic development back. As such, any political party thinking of calling for a Bandh will definitely give a second thought and not resort to such unproductive tactics.
