Neglected
Higher Education Your
cover story on higher education was more indicative of a future trend
rather than a present one. The education being imparted by the TU is not
up to the mark and its products also fare poor when they have to compete
with the students of other universities, both domestic and foreign. More
often than not a student and his/her guardian are not sure whether
the education they are getting is worth taking. There should be a quality
education to produce more competent students. For that to happen, we need
to have dedication and commitment in our leaders to the cause of
education. -Anajana
Shrestha Quality
Education Students
want more choice and quality education and better performance.
Greater exposure through the curriculum, higher standard infrastructure
are some of the prerequisite for quality education. If we are not able to
provide such education, it will struck our country. I think policy makers
must strive to improve the quality of education. -Shree
Krishna Dhungana Politicized
Institution I
agree with you that the institutions of higher education are no more than
a place for political battle. At a time when every political party wants a
strong student and teachers' organization within TU, how can one see the
quality education. As long as political parties use institutions of higher
education as their cadet recruiting center, Nepal may have to face
similar situation. -Subarna
Ranjit Prof.
Shrestha's Though-provoking remarks Prof.
Kapil Shrestha's interview was remarkable as well as eye-opener as he
expressed his experience of teaching and learning. Although there are many
reasons for erosion in the quality of education, the medium of teaching is
one of them. How can we believe that quality education is possible
from an institution which is politicized to the hilt. I would like to
thank Shrestha for expressing his opinion frankly without any hesitation.
I hope other professors will also come out in the front to air their
views. -Pemba
Gurung Take
Initiatives With
Tribhuwan University being silent on higher education, it is up to
Minister of Education Yog Prasad Upadhyay to take some bold initiatives.
As one of the citizens of the country, I will support every initiative
taken by Upadhyay. I hope he will initiate some concrete measures to
improve the quality of education at the oldest University of the country. -Pramod

Time For Reform At
a time when every one is talking about the need to reform in higher
education, you rightly pointed out some issues affecting the institution
of higher education. I agree that this is the right time to hit the
institutions of higher education. If policy makers fail to take immediate
steps, Nepal will have to import educated manpower from abroad. -Nirmal
Dhungana On
WTO It
is interesting to see the story on WTO. I agree that there is no option
for the country like Nepal other than to join WTO. I don't understand why
some of our policy makers start criticism whenever the government takes
right steps. The initiative taken by the government to join WTO is very
encouraging. I think this is a commendable step on the part of the
government. -Jitendra
Gajurel The
cover story on WTO is well written as it tried to give many information on
world's trading body as possible. There were still some missing points.
For instance what Nepal will do if she could not get the membership of WTO
and what home work has Nepal done so far after getting the status of
observer of WTO have not been highlighted in the story. -Srawan
