RETURNED: Crown Prince Dipendra, after attending the wedding of Crown Prince Philips of Belgium. BEREAVED: Hemraj Gyawali, chairman of Kantipur Publications (P) Ltd, of his father Bhubaneswor Upadhyay. Upadhyay died at the age of 83 in the capital last week. DIED: Anup Shumsher JB Rana, a noted manager and executive member of FNCCI, of heart attack, at the age of 51. Bal Bahadur Shrestha, a national weight-lifter, on Saturday. He succumbed to injuries that he received in a clash with alleged Maoist rebels at a fair in Ramechhap district last week. APPOINTED: Harihar Birahi, senior journalist and editor of Bimarsha weekly, as Chairman of the Nepal Press Council, by the government for a period of four years. Former President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Birahi has served as member and advisor to the Press Council. OPENED: Chefs' Food Festival 1999, organized by Hotel Association Nepal, at Bhrikuti Mandap, by Foreign Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat. The Festival was organized to promote Nepalese cuisine as a means to attract tourists. |
