EDITOR'S NOTE The nation has
wasted ten years of its most valuable time. The poor and deprived people of Nepal have
become poorer and more wretched of decade of misrule, bad governance and blatant
corruption has pushed the country to the brink of catastrophe. The hopes the aspirations
and the dream of millions have dashed into pieces. The supreme scarifices of hundreds of
poor Nepalese have only brought into fore a handful of callous and corrupt politicians who
have no compunction whatsoever to plunder their own motherland. They have played their
cards of restoration of democracy excellently to fill their dirty coffers. They are still
taking the country for a ride because the small intelligentsia in our country who can
become a deciding force to change the course of politics are out and out self-oriented and
stoop to any depth to achieve their selfish ends. The overwhelming mass is so poor that
they cannot withstand even a small temptation. In these dismal circumstances the Nepali
congress managed to win a comfortable majority in the last general elections about a year
ago. But the unsuitable thirst for power pelf in the top leadership of the ruling party
has almost split the party in two factions turning it into treasury and opposition benches
with the result that Bhattarai government was felled down and Koirala government
installed. Even the biggest fool will not find it difficult to figure out where the
country will head to under this kind of degenerate leadership. All the political parties
that have held the since of power have amassed so much ill gotten wealth and established
such strong unbreakable links with Mafia groups that they do not lack any funds to buy
votes to take them to the parliament. As such the game of the musical chair of one corrupt
politician out and the other in goes on and on. Since the poor people are helpless, they
do not have any option but to indoor. Powerful donor countries whose heart bleeds for the
deprived poor of the third world unabashedly support the corrupt politicians at the cost
of hundreds of millions of hapless poor. The forces in the country that are the
power to reckon with seem so much loyal to ritualism that they donít full the necessity
of arresting the rot. Perhaps, they feel so satisfied with their offer but that they do
not want to get involved in the mesh. System and constitution are not as inviolate as the
country and the people. If attempts are made to scarify the country and the people at the
altar of system and constitution, those who are playing this sinister game and all those
who are accessories are sure to be swept away by the forces of inevitability or
destiny. Those very poor and important people will rise and snatch their legitimate rights
and privileges with unprecedented violence. History is witness. Lets wake up before such a
situation starts to loom on the horizon. *
* * The political
parties have again started their politics of ìBandh.î They know fully well that these
kinds of Bandh are not conducive to the health of poor nations like ours. They can never
pressurize our insensitive governments. They only make the lives of our poor people more
miserable, hurting the economy as well. Any political party that resorts to Bandh can be
termed anti national. Consequently we do trust our politicians will see to reason and stop
this anti national political activity. The UML politicians went a step further and
organized a rally in Kathmandu bringing over a lakh of people from all over the kingdom.
One influential insider of the party boasted to this scribe that the party spent more than
five crores of rupees on that occasion. What a foolish boast? First where did the money
come from ? Everybody knows. Second, that money could have been put to much better use in
our poor country. Will the UML leaders agree ?
