EDITOR'S NOTE
The commentaries, criticisms, opinions and suggestions that have flooded most of the print media in Nepal on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's State visit to India have become unprecedented. Conspicuously a few have written favorably. Since the Prime Minister himself is not very optimistic about the outcome of his visit, many knowledgeable people have started expressing their misgivings about the timing of the visit. It the visit at Prime Minister's level could be put off for four years, a few months postponement would not have mattered at all. It is almost unbelievable even to think that Nepal-India relations could sink so low that the Prime Minister of Nepal had to accord top priority to his meeting with Indian friends, even ignoring the parliament, so that he would be able to accelerate the process of confidence building measures with India. Since Prime Minister Koirala is already in Delhi basking in the warmth of the hospitality of his Indian friends, it would be meaningless to comment on whether it was the opportune moment for the visit. We will patiently wait for the outcome of the visit hoping that everything will turn out fine and Koirala will have a successful visit. * * * We have always denounced the politics of "Bandh". It is most regrettable that once again the frustrated politicians have resorted to "Bandh". Why don't they realize that such insensitive acts only harm the economy of the country? Such bandhas cannot pressurize the government which has no morality. Bandh exert moral pressure. But for politicians who are totally unaware of morality and integrity, "Bandh" don't mean anything. They only cause inconvenience to ordinary citizens and make life harder for the poor. Any body, who has any love for the poor country and compassion for the underprivileged, will never resort to Bandh.
