APPOINTED: Balaram Singh Malla, Royal Nepalese Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, as Royal Nepalese Ambassador to Austria and Hungary also, by His Majesty the King, in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal.

SELECTED: Mrs Bimala Thapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police, for this year's "The two thousand international recognition and scholarship award" given each year by the International Association of Women Police.

DIED: Gopal Nidhi Tiwari, scholar of English and Sanskrit, at the age of 80.

Khadga Bikram Shah, former member of parliament and leader of Nepali Congress, at a hospital in Lucknow, India.

DISMISSED : Seven Police Inspectors Binaya Kumar Jha, Laxmi Prakash Sainju, Gobinda Prasad Thapaliya, Mohan Prasad Sitaula, Santosh Kumar Chudal, Nirakar Man Singh Regmi and Sushil Kumar Khanal, from the police service, by the government, for refusing to go to Maoist-affected regions.

HOSPITALIZED: Gajendra Narayan Singh, national chairman of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) and an MP, due to urinary ailment.
