Artist Rohan Chitakar is young and his works look attractive in every angle of good looking sketches. They are full of strong brush strokes and textures, well composed, very nicely harmonized and balanced. The artistic management are very effective be it in landscapes or in figurative composition. The work is indeed eye-catching.

Chitrakar harmonizes ideas to become the complete blend of all those things to resemble good art. The theme of the sketches is "Forgetting of being.î He tends to correlate climbing as a metaphor for life and for the entire existence.

An exhibition of charcoal sketches of the young artist Rohan Chitrakar is on display at the Sidhartha Art Gallery , Baber Mahal. Rohan is inspired by Rock Climbing and his work is his response to the mental and psychological aspect of the sport. The artist is a student at Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong.

"Fear, anger, frustration, age, confusion and all the developed gestures of our race," says Rohan when asked what his sketches depict. Stark expressions of the life of hardship represented in black and white.

The artists feeling for White bodies breaking out of their black background speak of a pilgrim on a journey from darkness to the light.

The physical and emotional drama of life viewed in black and white. "Man has now become a mere thing to the forces ( of technology , of politics , of history ) that bypass him, surpass him, possess him. To those forces , man's concrete being , his world of life has neither value nor interest: it is eclipsed, forgotten from the start." Art of the Novel , Kundera.

The definition of art changes with time as does ways of living. The 19 year old, Rohan Chitrakar loves rock climbing and sees his work through the eyes of a climber.

To work on the empty canvas and when creating something with strong textures and try to co-operate with them. The identity as an artist has been changing along with change in canvas. This young artist will probably be watched closely in the years to come for changes in style.

The main thrust of his sketches is the spirit of inner art. From the beginning he has sought to bring the cumulative experience on artists who use different medium, from words to sketches in his canvas. His sensitivity of experience, environment etc.

"I don't know how far I have drifted from the essence of the sport of climbing , but as a result, my thoughts have directly led me to recent works in charcoal figures and faces. These images are my mixed emotions and interpretations of what my existence has made me understand," says Rohan.

He tries to create a world which is perplexed, fluctuating and jetting as the real world is. He portrays the gala mood with the help of lines and texture. Which does not only mean the presence of human existence but also the atmosphere in which we live. There are poetical forms and expressions in his sketches.
