AWARDED: Former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, with this yearís POLSAN Award for his contribution to the development of democracy in the country, by Political Scientists Association of Nepal (POLSAN). ACCREDITED: Dr. Shambhu Ram Simkhada, permanent representative of Nepal for the Geneva-based United Nations and other international organizations, also as the Royal Nepalese Ambassador to Switzerland. LEFT: Tirtha Man Dangol, Minister of State for Health, for New York, USA, to participate in the fifth world convention on health promotion to be jointly organized by WHO, Pan-American Health Organization and Ministry of Health of Mexico. Surendra Hamal, Minister of State for Labor and Transport, for Geneva, Switzerland, to take part in the 88th general convention of International Labor Organization (ILO). ELECTED: Gokul Pokharel, President of Nepal Press Institute, as Vice President of the Council of the Press Institutes of Asia and the Pacific Region. APPOINTED: Bishnu Bam Malla, a 12th grade officer at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), as executive director, by the government for a period of not more than two years. ARRESTED: Chitra Narayan Shrestha, central committee member of the underground CPN (Maoist), along with his body guard, while getting off a bus at New Road of Hariauan VDC in Siraha district last month. Jay Narayan Mishra, a Bhutanese refugee, staying at Beldangi refugee camp in Jhapa, while trying to obtain certificate of Nepali citizenship for his son, Tika Ram. Jaya Narayan had already obtained a certificate of Nepali citizenship some two years ago. |
