Emerging Business

As internal security is on high demand, private security agency like Group 4 is making an impressive rise

By A CORRESPONDENT

From Mankamana Cable Car in Kuringhat, Chitawan district to the Pavilion of Himalayan Expo, security personnel of Group 4 Nepal have been stationed to provide reliable and professional security services.

As more companies are realizing the need to maintain security, Group 4 Nepal is working overtime to train more private guards in the country. The group even sends security guards to the countries in the Gulf as the demand of the multinational Group 4 personnel are on the rise.

The Group 4 provides wide range of services like training, investigation and police liaison. The main activities of the Group 4 includes guarding service, technical services, cash-in-transit, training services and consultancy. Under the guarding service, the group provides uniformed armed and unarmed guards. Besides, it also provides safe and secure transit of cash and valuables through cash-in-transit programs.

"We provide most efficient and professional security services to the clients. Some of our programs like cash-in-transit is yet to take off as the permission has not been given to bring special vehicles for it," said Udaya Gurung, managing director of Group 4 Nepal -- which is a part of the multinational Group 4 company based in Netherlands.

As Nepalese people have established themselves as best suited to provide professional security services internally as well as internationally, more Nepalese may find security jobs abroad.

After the establishment of Group 4 in Nepal, many Nepalese have already landed jobs in Gulf countries as security staff.

"Security service is the most prestigious and less competitive sector for Nepalese to find job in international market," said Gurung.

Under the Group 4, many Nepalese are working in different parts of the world particularly in Gulf states and India.

As more urbanized the society, more the security risks. After the restoration of democracy, the demand of organized private security system has also increased in the country.

That was the reason that group 4 began to operate here. In 1993 Group 4 Securities International felt that the environment in Nepal was conducive for a professional security company with an international back-up to enter the market. Following this, Group 4 Securities Nepal was formed in April, 1996 and commenced its activities in May 1996.

"Group 4 Nepal is a professional security company and the management team is formed of highly experienced managers and security professionals. The company is dedicated to supply  quality security systems and services," said Udaya Gurung.

Group 4 Securities (International) B.V. with its head office situated in the Hague, Netherlands, is the world's largest private security organization. The group is operating in 48 countries around the world.

Established in April 1996, Group 4 Nepal has rapidly expanded and today it has its operations in over 42 districts with more than hundred clients employing in excess of eighteen hundred guards.

The group is a professional security organization and offers a wide range of security services to all its customers, from the largest multinationals to a private individual, covering virtually every security product and service available in the market.

Although private security business is relatively new in Nepal, it has the potential to grow here as the country's manpower can also find jobs overseas.
