APPOINTED: Dr. Dirgha Singh Bam, the senior chest specialist, to the Scientific Committee of the ongoing 31st World Conference on Lung Diseases held in Florence, Italy. The Director of the National Tuberculosis Center and SAARC Tuberculosis Center, Dr. Bam is in the Board of Directors of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD). LEFT: A three-member delegation led by Minister of State for Population and Environment Shiva Raj Joshi, for Kitakiyushu, Japan, to take part in the 14th ministerial Conference on Asia Pacific Regional Environment and Sustainable Development. A fifteen-member parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chitralekha Yadav, for New Delhi, India to study the efforts being made for the empowerment of women in India and the implementation of the reservation policy for women in the local government. The delegation comprises MPs Kunta Sharma, Urmila Aryal, Sushila Nepal, Renuka Kumari Yadav, Shilupyari Mulmi Karmacharya, Gaura Koirala, Thammaya Thapa, Sharada Pokharel, Mahendra Kumar Mishra, Ganga Dutta Joshi, Ravindra Shrestha, Lal Bahadur Biswokarma and Rishi Babu Pariyar and under secretary Birendra Bahadur Karki. DESIGNATED: Pashupati Parajuli, Registrar of Appellate Court, Biratnagar, as the officer to handle the cases of the labor court, by the Ministry of Law and Justice. KILLED: Mansingh Shahi, President of the Maoist Victims Association, Kalikot district, while he was walking at the district headquarters, last week, by suspected Maoist rebels. |
