Peace Prescription

The Ambassador of Peace explains just what is necessary for human beings to live a happy life

By THAKUR AMGAI

God has infinite children,

But the name of His fondest child

Is Peace.

Peace is one of the creations of God, as these lines say. The author explains in his own - but confirmed - way of attaining it. The world has been pushed in a seemingly never-ending deluge of violence. From the Middle East to Colombia and from Kashmir to Nepal, violence has struck virtually every part of the world. Conflict has almost become the trend of modern-day life.

Amid such bloody turbulence, the only thing people aspire for is peace. The eternal peace that comes from the bottom of the heart is the solution to today's turmoil. Sri Chinmoy, the spiritual guru crowned with the title Ambassador of Peace has laid the path to peace in black and white.

In "The Spiritual Life", Sri Chinmoy spells out how peace can be obtained, not in external circumstances, but only by self-realization. Moreover, he has clearly shown the way of attaining the supreme bliss everybody seeks but only a rare few attain. One of his suggestions is to abstain from the lust of power and cater love to all. In poetic form he says:

When the power of love

Replaces the love of power

Man will have a new name: God

Thus, he has explained clearly for those who say that God does not exist: God is nothing but a creature that loves all and does not have the lust for power. Any human being with such a nature is God.

Written as a practical guide to self-realization, the book is divided into chapters covering a wide range of topics. A poetic verse is written at the beginning or the end of the sentence and the explanation comes afterwards. The author has done justice to readers who cannot spare much time to go through the book. The gist of the whole topic has been given right at the beginning.

In addition, Sri Chinmoy has shown various aspects of spiritual life, including consciousness, God the supreme, mind, heart and soul, meditation,  peace, beauty and joy, among others.

Sri Chinmoy has tirelessly dedicated his life to the pursuit of world peace and to the fulfilment of the unlimited potential of the human spirit. He believes in the dictum that global peace begins from each individual. Having endowed the world with more than 1,300 books and 600 CD albums, the guru has a deeper insight of what peace means. "Peace does not mean the absence of war. Peace means the presence of harmony, love, satisfaction and oneness. Peace means flood of love in the world family," he says.

The book, written in simple language, is a must-read for all, be they world leaders who are responsible for the escalating violence and have the power to end it or ordinary people who are depressed and frustrated by the plight of the world. As the book says:

We have come to sing

The song of joy

In this suffering world.

And that joy does not depend on outer circumstances. It should come from within the hearts of everybody. If anyone tries to seek happiness from the brain, he or she will not find it. But if one tries to find happiness from the heart, one will get it.
