Disgusting Politics The patience of even the most die-hard
democrats are running out as the ruling party is once again embroiled in internal fighting
triggered by nothing else than crude lust for power ("In The Parliament's Court"
SPOTLIGHT February 15). While the country is bleeding, these so-called leaders are
nonchalant to the extent of becoming sadist. The Koiralas, Deubas and Bhattarais -- all
have disappointed Nepalese people. Democracy came in Nepal but so did these people with
it. Can there be no democracy in the country without these lot? Sarbeswor Pradhan No End In Sight There seems to be no end in sight as far as
the problems of the country are concerned ("In The Parliament's Court" SPOTLIGHT
February 15). The sense of cynicism and pessimism is pervading everywhere. Is the system
of the country bound for failure? And till what point will the country fall? The present
army of political leaders enthuse no inspiration and generate no hope. Bilas Khakurel No Point There is no point whether the parliament
ratifies the state of emergency or not ("In The Parliament's Court" SPOTLIGHT
February 15). People are suffering anyway. Meanwhile, the political leaders are once again
displaying their naked hypocrisy. While a faction of the ruling party led by former PM
Koirala is asking for Deuba's blood (a see-through pretext of grabbing power), the main
opposition is keenly bargaining with the government for supporting the latter in the
parliament. They may think that people are fool. But no, the days they could hoodwink
ordinary people are gone. Sudha KC Great Cartoon Kudos for your cartoonist Khokana's
insightful depiction of our murderous leaders as vultures feasting themselves on the flesh
of our motherland; maybe, he could have included some more vultures that are bent on
scraping off the last bit. half a century of failed planning has left people no better.
The hardheaded fascination with central planning, a defunct idea of the collapsed Soviet
empire, clearly tells how our planners are abreast with modern trends. When the present
finance minister, as the chief planner at the beginning of this so-called democratic
restoration came out with the same old wine, he replied that plans are the same, but the
democrats had "commitment". The commitment is just for ever larger piece of
commission. In democracy, opportunities are given to implement promising new ideas.
Unfortunately, in Nepal the same failed methods are tried over and over again by the sane
failed leadership. And the poor people have to forego even salt in their diet as these
dimwits gorge themselves in five star luxury for poverty eradication. every day, they
burden the people with newer taxes to fill their Pajeros with diesel, as they remain
unwilling to give up even their across the board pregnancy medication. It is being
revealed that they are diverting these benefits to finance the killing of their own
followers. Now they are saying that they will tax us for the streetlights. We do not
require the lights! They can leave us in the dark at the mercy of their marauding dacoits,
while illuminating their palatial buildings with unpaid electricity and keep the security
cordon around themselves. Shukra Raj Acharya |
