Vehicle Visage A leading Korean automobile manufacturer launches a showroom in Kathmandu By NIRAJ POUDYAL The market for automobiles in Nepal is ever changing. The choice of brand is made after deep pondering and is always preceded by visits to at least half a dozen showrooms.
Consumers also give ample consideration to the models and colors before making that vital decision. After the liberalization of economy in early 1990s, many automobile manufacturers, including multinationals, rushed into the country to meet the demand of consumers with different varieties of vehicles - from smaller and cheaper family cars to highly expensive multipurpose vehicles. KIA Motors is not a new name among Nepalese fond of luxurious automobiles. The reputable Korean carmakers have been selling their products in Nepal for the last couple of years. Last week, they added another feather in their Nepalese cap by launching a separate showroom in Tinkune. The showroom is complete with KIA products, including spare parts and service, under one roof. Small luxury family cars, sports utility vehicles, vans, microbuses and multipurpose vehicles are among its major products. "The newest showroom of KIA Motors at Tinkune is more than just a most facilitated showroom, and adds a state-of-the-art servicing facility supported by full stocks of genuine spare parts for easy and comprehensive repairs. This would eliminate the need of waiting for import of spare parts", said Deepak Dutta, general manager of automotive division of Continental Trading Enterprises Private Limited, which is an authorized distributor of KIA for Nepal. Mr. Koh from KIA Motors said, "The KIA Motors is committed to a quality product and after sales servicing". The showroom has certainly increased the range of choice for the consumers and the level of competitiveness for other showrooms and distributors. "This helps to reduce the price level ultimately leading to consumers benefit," one visitor said at the inauguration ceremony. KIA Motors expects that its market will expand in the days ahead. At a time when the country is reeling from an economic slowdown, the opening of the showroom shows that not all is going wrong. This can be expected to nudge other manufacturers to step up their marketing campaigns. |
