By crying foul about the Election Commission's decision, Nepal Congress leaders - whatever factions they may belong-have proved that they have  completely forgotten democratic culture. In their never-ending quest for  power, the NC leaders wanted the EC to deliver a verdict that would suit their interests. In its belated decision, the Election Commission delivered an interim order which has opened ways to go to the people to both the factions of the ruling party. Now, it would be in the interests of every body to knock the people's court for their final judgment rather than hang around in narrow corridors of power in Kathamndu. People are the final arbiter. Instead of knocking the doors of court the Deuba Congress should reach the people and tell them why it had decided to revolt against Koirala. In fact, we assume that after delivering verdict on the House of Representatives dissolution case, the court too would not like to   meddle into the senseless fighting between the power-hungry and corrupt politicians.

One of the most important issues the Election Commission needs to understand is that people can't deliver their judgment unless an environment could be created where they could exercise their right to vote without fear and favor. But as the Maoist rebels continue to kill innocent people, abduct political workers and destroy government property the government has failed to assure people at large that it can make adequate provision for security in the run up to the polls in November. The Commission should hence ask the government whether it can hold free and fair polls. If the Deuba administration doesn't have guts, it should be sacked and a caretaker government of patriotic and neutral people be constituted to conduct free and fair polls. The doublespeak on part of the Deuba government should no more be tolerated.

Speaker of the dissolved House of Representatives , Taranath Ranabhat, has finally spoken his mind and has rightly pointed towards the source of Maoist insurgency. In a clear and categorical statement last week, Mr. Ranabhat has said that it is India that is providing safe haven for Maoist leadership and using them in its fight against Nepalese people and king. Mr. Ranabhat has, however, failed to elaborate the `grand design' India has woven to take control of security and precious natural resource of this Himalayan kingdom. While the corrupt and power-hungry Nepalese politicians have time and again raised questions about the role of monarchy in institutionalizing democracy in the country, they have kept a mum when the issue of Delhi's design against Nepal and the Nepalese arises. Now, everybody has the right to know how could the Maoists get most modern arms to attack security bases in Sindhuli and Arghakhanchi?   Where did they get those arms?  Who is helping them?   If India is not keen to help by controlling the open border and nabbing the Maoists who are taking shelter in India, Nepal cannot but approach other friendly countries for immediate action.  The water is getting over the head.  We have to act now.  If we want to save our country, we cannot delay in taking appropriate action.  We must pressurize King Gyanendra to come to the nation's rescue.  He cannot afford to stay a silent spectator when the country is facing such grave dangers.
