APPOINTED: Narendra Raj Pandey, Royal
Nepalese Ambassador to People's Republic of China, as also the Nepalese envoy to
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Professor Jagannath Shrestha,
Professor Dr. Jeevan Shrestha, Dr. Mukunda Ranjit and Professor Dr.
Bishalnath Upreti, as the academicians at the Royal Nepal Academy of Science and
Technology (RONAST), by Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, in his capacity as chancellor
of RONAST. HONORED: Elizabeth Hawley,
an American national, Reuters correspondent and New Zealand's honorary consul to the
Kingdom of Nepal, with the Sagarmatha National Award, by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture
and Civil Aviation, for her contribution to the tourism development of Nepal. Appa
Sherpa, the record holder of the highest number of Everest ascents, and Ang Phuti
Sherpa, wife of late mountaineer Babuchhiri Sherpa, with the cash prize
of Rs 500,000 and Rs 120,000, by the Ministry. Twenty-five renowned personalities
including Ramananda Giri, a preacher, Satya Mohan Joshi,
culture expert, Dr. Mrigendra Raj Pandey, cardiologist, Dr. Bhekh
Bahadur Thapa, diplomat, Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, vice
chairman of National Planning Commission, Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma,
chancellor of Kathmandu University, Govinda Biyogi, journalist, Hutaram
Baidya, agriculture expert, Shashikala Tiwari, artist, as
National Personalities, by National Development and Honor Center. IMPROVED: The health condition of Ramesh Nath Pandey, former Minister for Information and Communication, who has been hospitalized for the last one month at the Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital. |
