OFF THE RECORD |
Game of Hostility Nepalese have some unique characters that
they have inherited from the past. As is evident by different events, they do not mind to
commit suicide for the sake of nothing. In the last few years, from political leaders to
film producers and film hall owners, all of them seem to have lost their sense. In the
name of reconciliation, political forces are promoting clashes. Whether prime minister
Surya Bahadur Thapa or Nepali Congress leader Girija Prasad Koirala or CPM-UML leader
Madhav Kumar Nepal, all off them have their own agenda to snatch hostility from the jaws
of reconciliation. Interestingly, the film industry, too, shares similar characteristics.
The producers and film hall owners are accusing each other and creating situation
favorable to none. This is the game of hostility, which they have learned from Nepalese
politics.
Small Screen Attraction With the upsurge of private Nepalese
television channels, the country's major actors seem to have found a place to perform. At
a time when the country's film industry is suffering from a long recession and the recent
disputes between the producers and film hall owners is worsening their woes, the actors
have descended towards the small screen. Whether they be Hari Bansha or Madan Krishna or
other film actors, the television has given enormous opportunities. After a long hiatus,
even another prominent comedian Gopal Raj Mainali is appearing in the scene with a new
television serial in Channel Nepal. Small screen seems to be the sector that is employing
the otherwise unemployed actors. Muddy Sports Nepal has made enormous efforts to improve
the quality of sports. In the last few years, the government has invested huge amount of
money to improve sports infrastructure. Strangely, the ground of Dasrath Stadium remains
unchanged. Even after the renovation under the grant assistance of Chinese government, the
ground of Dasrath Stadium is no better as was witnessed during the ongoing national
football league. The muddy ground looked more like a farmer's paddy field. It seems that
Nepalese will have to wait much more to once again enjoy the soccer in green and proper
ground. From the population density to surrounding of the Dasrath Stadium everything has
changed in last couple of years. The only thing that has not changed is the state of the
ground itself. Bizarre Concepts The history of Nepal is full of bizarre
alliances. Whether in politics or culture, there is always a compromise between two
hostile ideologies. At a time when the country's centrist democratic party is promoting a
leader of the communist party as prime minister, some so called intellectuals inclined to
democratic party and termed as anti-China, do not mind to preach the idea of coalition
between the radical communist and moderate democratic party. Some intellectuals in their
recent opinions floated these contradictory concepts through write-ups in the leading
newspapers. Former professor Dr. Lok Raj Baral is among the leading promoter of this idea.
If a person is democrat, how democratic forces benefit by forging alliance with radical
communists and how will promoting the communism in Nepal protect India's interest? Either
the scholars like Baral has to say Nepalese communists are not communists like those from
other parts of the world or they should clarify what exactly their ideas are. |
