FORMED: A nine-member recommendation committee under the convenorship of joint secretary Baikuntha Das Shrestha, for fixing the fees at community schools, by the government. 

AWARDED: Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the first two climbers of Mount Everest, with the biennial Sagarmatha Award, by the Nepal Association of Travel Agents. 

Gopal Prasad Rimal, litterateur, with the Krishnamani Literary Award, by the Krishnamani Literary Award Management Committee. 

LEFT: Sir Edmund Hillary, for London, United Kingdom, after taking part in golden jubilee celebrations of Everest ascent in Nepal.

DIED: Rameshwor Kayastha, photojournalist at Gorkhapatra Corporation. 

ELECTED: Dr. Kanti Giri, as president, and Dr. Satish Bajaj, as general secretary of the International College of Surgeons-Nepal Chapter.
