If the local community and police join hands, they can make a lot of difference in society by protecting public property. The residents of Koteswor proved this when they successfully organized inter-ward badminton.

Participated by more than 100 badminton players, the game was the first of its kind when players of various ages came together. After the completion of the tournament, member secretary of National Sports Council Kishore Bahadur Singh laid the foundation of the badminton covered hall.

The final program was completed when member Secretary Singh, Assistant Inspector† General of Police Dr. Govinda Thapa and Mansuri Malla Thakuri president of the Community Service and Development Society joined hands in solidarity.

Organized by the Community Service and Development Society, the weeklong inter-ward badminton tournament was a reflection of the unity shown by the local community to establish peace.

Damodar Adhikary, a local resident who encouraged people to play badminton, has played an important role in organizing the tournament. Supported by dozens of local clubs, the tournament consisted of men's single and double.

"This is a good beginning. The NSC will provide all kinds of support to build the covered hall," said Singh. "Nepal Police is ready to support community participation. I am happy that the community in Koteshwor showed a way to mobilize the community through the sports," said Dr. Thapa.

"This is a model of community participation to build some good things in society," said Malla, president of the society. With the initiative of local boys, the club acquired a land at the bank of Manhara.

"At a time when large areas of public land along the river of Bagmati and Manahara areas are illegally encroached, we were successful to hold this small portion of land," said Rabi Rimal, a local youth.

"Although we have successfully conducted badminton tournament, we have to go to long way to generate resources," said Adhikary, convenor of the Tournament.
