By A CORRESPONDENT

Nepali's paintings : Lucid expression

Every artist has his/her own way of expressing inner feelings and observing the social changes taking place in front of them. But only a few of them have a quality to express it is clear and concise manner.

There are only a few remaining artists in Nepal who have been witness to the various faces of changes in the painting world in last many decades. From rural to semi urban and from primitive to modern, Nepal’s contemporary art has a long history.

By observing social transformation and feeling them in their heart, many artists have recollected their memories and put them in canvas. But in the course of painting, many artists seem to lose their original feelings. Some fail to mix the colors and describe the situation.

Prominent and senior artist Uttam Nepali is not a new name in the contemporary Nepalese art. He has spent more than five decades in the sector painting different kinds of arts.

In his solo art exhibition recently inaugurated by prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa at Siddhartha Art Gallery, the talent and quest of senior artist Nepali is in vivid display. “My paintings are the expression of my long career,” said Nepali.

At the wall of the Gallery, more than 160 paintings of Nepali are put up. A large number of art lovers visited the gallery. In his five decade long career in contemporary art, senior artist Nepali has seen many ups and downs. He has also witnessed new technologies adopted by artists.

From mixing colors to drawing the abstract feeling, Nepali’s paintings describe various phases of life. His paintings also include poetic impressions as well as creative feeling.

One of the major characteristics of Nepali’s paintings is that they speak volume about human activities, nature and surroundings. The choice of color and his imagination perfectly match with each other and successfully express his inner desire.

Artist Nepali’s paintings give simple messages. The combination of colors open up his mind and his inner desire. Although the canvas is small in size, Nepali knows the way to explain his subjects and themes.

Unlike some other modern artists - who do not mind painting whatever they like terming it as modern or abstract art – senior artist Nepali’s feelings are simple and clear.

He disagrees with the idea of some artist to use every kind of thing terming it as modernity. Artist Nepali argues that an artist needs to have clear vision and idea regarding his paintings. One needs to learn alphabet to understand the language and without understanding the language one cannot read vocabulary.

Senior artist Nepali describes the transformation of Nepalese society through his paintings. He holds the view that the art is a part of human life and it can transform Nepalese society.

Artist Nepali’s imagination and observation are perfect since his paintings recollect all minor events. Whether it is in abstract or other forms, senior artist Nepali is capable to express his observations.

Art critics regard him as a man of complete imagination and a man with the capability to express inner feelings in a perfect manner.
