Tragic story Your cover
story WIDOWS OF CONFLICT: Tragedy Unlimited (SPOTLIGHT June 25) has raised an
issue largely ignored by the general mainstream press. Although people in responsible
positions and mainstream politics have shown very less concern about the situation of the
bereaved family members of the slain soldiers, Maoists and the civilians, it is a very
relevant issue that needs to be given due space in the press. Thank you for covering the
issue and shaking others towards thinking about it. Sneha
Shrestha Long-term Impact The aftermath
of the ongoing conflict will have a far-reaching impact on society WIDOWS OF
CONFLICT: Tragedy Unlimited (SPOTLIGHT June 25). If anything, the situation of the
widows of conflict as you have written shows a picture of the psychologically
trauma that the society will have to go through in future. The war might come to an end,
but its social impact will be felt for a long time to come. The conflicting parties need
to understand this. Rabi
Paneru What About The Children? It is not very
difficult to guess the situation of children affected by conflict after reading your cover
story about widows WIDOWS OF CONFLICT: Tragedy Unlimited (SPOTLIGHT June 25).
For most cases there are at least two children to each women widowed by the conflict.
Moreover, the children are at a more vulnerable age. So the damage caused to their
mentality by the conflict is virtually irreparable. The children are also the future of
the country. And if they are so much traumatized psychologically, what will be their level
of performance in the future? We need to think really hard about this issue. Prity
Shakya Education Sector Last week the
whole of the country was focused on the resolution of the problem that arose from the
closure of schools by the Maoist affiliated students wing EDUCATION STRIKE: A Brief
Respite (SPOTLIGHT June 25). Although the problem has been solved for the time
being, we do not hear that efforts are being made towards its long-term resolution. Why do
all the people rise up only when the problem is inside their room? Why do not they start
acting before the problem knocks their door? There is a saying that prevention is better
than cure. And why do the people involved in education sector think about it so late? Why
do not they try to prevent the problem instead of panicking once it sets in? These are
some of the questions whose answers are most needed. Rudra
Batsyal What Is The Option? The burning of
waste materials is undoubtedly harmful HOSPITAL WASTE MANAGEMENT: Stranded in
Trivial Matters (SPOTLIGHT June 25). Some harmful gases are produced from burning.
But what is the option for hospital waste management other than to incinerate it? Would
the problem of harmful gases be solved by throwing them in open? We need to act in a
practical manner. The practical solution to waste management is neither not producing them
nor not burning them. Why dont we stop riding vehicles? Even they produce harmful
gases. Likewise, why shouldnt we stop burning firewood in the kitchens? And why
shouldnt we stop burning corpses? We, citizens, as well as the concerned government
authorities and experts in the private field should think practically about the problem of
hospital waste management so that there is minimum possible harm to the public health. Hari
Khanal Snails Pace Deuba
government is moving very slow AMMENDMENT OF REGUALTIONS: No Check No Balance
(SPOTLIGHT June 25). It took almost a month to appoint the new prime minister and
more than two weeks to form a mini cabinet, yet the government has not taken its normal
shape. However, more than pace it is important that it runs the government smoothly and
drives the country out of this turmoil. Although, he is being criticized for not forming
the cabinet fast, I opine that he should do it so as to ensure broader conciliation albeit
it might take time. Krishna
Khadka Serious Weakness Due to the
bad-governance, corruption and open borders, our security has become very fragile. The
fact that the Indians traveling all the way to Thankot police checkpoint were caught
with the arms shows how careless, fragile and irresponsible is the security of this
nation. This news is not new for the innocent people of this nation. This kind of
irresponsible incidents had occurred many times before in the heart of the capital and
elsewhere in Nepal. And the culprits easily got away. We do not understand what the
government of this country really does. Yam
