PHOTO EXHIBITION |
On Conflict Shree Bhakta Khanal, a
reporter with fortnightly magazine, has displayed some of his best photographs taken in
the Maoist hit areas By A CORRESPONDENT Following the intensification of Maoist insurgency, many journalists traveled the infected areas to gather information and publish the news items but only a few journalists have taken initiatives to display the photographs taken during the reporting period. Khanal, who joined as a reporter at Himal Khabarpatrika, traveled different parts of the country to fulfill his assignments. Along with covering the news, journalist Khanal also spent his time capturing interesting photographs. Though I wrote on Maoist insurgency in the process of reporting, it was not my hobby but a mere obligation to my profession. On the top of that, if I am to make a confession, the study and research of the Himalayan belt are the subjects of my interest, said journalist Khanal. I just wanted to act as a medium between these two. Inaugurated by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Mrs Grace Ammal Asirwatham, the exhibition consists of photographs taken by Khanal in different periods. The photographs were taken in different parts of the Maoist affected areas including Rukum and Rolpa districts. All the 21 photographs pasted at the gallery show different faces and scenes of the remote areas of Nepal. Khanals photographs reflect the difficulties, troubles and violences in the country. I had only wanted to further my photography in some other Maoist controlled parts of Jajarkot and Rukum but I could not grasp so many other important parts of these districts, said Khanal. The urban people have not visited the places I visited but all the people have deep concern over the lifestyle of the people struggling for the survival in difficult situation. |
