Make It Clear

While it has already been more than one year after Nepal ratified the treaty act and entered the World Trade Organization (WTO), most of the Nepalese are still quite ignorant about it "A YEAR AFTER WTO: At The Crossroads (SPOTLIGHT May 13)."

Particularly the business fraternity, which needs to be well informed about the rules and provisions of the new system to function properly, is in a state of confusion thanks to the ignorance. At such a time, I think, before anything else a wide campaign must be launched to make the businessmen and the general public aware of the new setting. It is not just the responsibility of the government, it is an equal responsibility of the media and leadership in the business sector.

Analytical Story

The cover story about the situation of trading in Nepal one year after World Trade Organization (WTO) was very analytical "A YEAR AFTER WTO: At The Crossroads (SPOTLIGHT May 13)." As you have pointed out in the article, although Nepal has entered the WTO, most of us here are very confused about what will happen and how should the business go ahead now. Unlike what was feared, there has been no such chaos in the first year of the membership of WTO. However, the business and trade sector of the country is still not so clear about the rules and techniques of the game. The concerned authorities should bring out information packages about the WTO to educate the existing and prospective business people.

Good Friend

The Japanese government and people have always shown very sincere interest in the development of Nepal since the past many years "JAPANESE ASSISTANCE: Road To Prosperity (SPOTLIGHT May 13). The B. P. highway, whose first phase construction has just finished, is another landmark of Japan's friendly support to Nepal. Japan's help to Nepal is not guided by any vested interest and we should agree with gratitude that we have very less to offer in return. We should all thank the Japanese Government and the Japanese people for their sincere support in our national development.

Insightful Interview

I read the interview you took with Retd. General Bharat Keshar Simha "Whenever There Is Division Among Democratic Forces, Naturally Other Forces Will Take Advantage." His views on the situation of the country, are convincing and I liked the interview in general.

Reconciliation Is A Must

It is very ironic that while the foreigners are perpetually calling for an environment of reconciliation, the forces of the country are deliberately creating rift among themselves "ROCCA'S VISIT: Call For Reconciliation (SPOTLIGHT May 13)". At time of such crisis when the national integrity is in jeopardy, there is no option but to unite. We can take pride of our parties only if the country is there. Without the country the political parties, the institution of monarchy, the rebelling political force, nothing has meaning.

Laudable Performance

Nepal's performance in the AFC president's cup was very praiseworthy "AFC PRESIDENT'S CUP: Astounding Performance (SPOTLIGHT May 3)". It performed very well not only in the league round, but also in the semi finals. Although, the football pundits did not expect Nepal to enter the semi finals, the Three Star club of Nepal not only entered the semi finals but also performed very well in the semi final game itself. Keep it up.

Needless Agitation

The political parties in the present situation are not in a position get public support "POLITICS: Heading Towards Confrontation (SPOTLIGHT May 13)." Although, the parties' demand for democracy is ultimately for the people, their activities over the past one decade, which was in contrast with the people's expectations, have led them to lose public support. They have already made a mockery by launching the agitation for many months without any public sympathy last year. If they fail to understand the situation and really decide to go to the same path of agitation again, they will not only make another mockery but might also end up behind the bars thereby weakening the fight for democracy that is imperative in the coming years, when people will get fed up with the King's direct rule and realize the need for democracy.
