If the stalls put up at 9th Nepal Education & Book Fair 2005 and the number of visitors to the fair are any indication, Nepal is growing as one of the major markets for foreign educational organizations.

Students at the fair : Useful exhbition

The annual exhibition, organized by the Global Exposition and Management Services Pvt. Ltd., is in its ninth year now and is on from May 20 - 29 at the exhibition hall of Bhrikutimandap - May 20-23 for education fair and May 20-29 for book fair.

Among the 200 stalls put up at the fair, the stalls of educational institutions and consultants representing many countries such as India, China, Japan, the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Italy, Switzerland and Malaysia were the ones most frequented by the visitors. Banners displaying the names of these countries and the names of universities and courses available in those countries covered most of the stalls.

"My aim of coming here is to find out about the choice of going to an American University," said a visitor. "I have scanned through many of the stalls and am quite pleased with the discounts and the services they are offering."

According to the organizers, the exhibition aims at bringing students, guardians, educationists, publishers, policy-makers, sellers and educational institution operators together to disseminate information about national and international schools, colleges and universities.

Likewise, a large number of stalls were put up by recruiting centers of schools of various parts of India. It shows that Indian schools are becoming popular to Nepalese students. One reason for this could be the frequent disruption of educational activities in Nepal due to political instability.

"We have many Nepali students in our school," said a representative of an Indian School. "Last year alone we sent twenty seven students. We have also arranged for a separate hostel for Nepali students."

The exhibition has two sections, one with exhibition of various books from the publishers of Nepal and abroad. The other section includes stalls from various educational institutions and their representatives.

The books exhibition that attracted more visitors including teachers, academicians, intellectuals showcased books on variety of subjects published by national as well as international publication houses and offered them at discount prices.

Seminar, quiz contests and free counseling on study opportunities available here and abroad were also organized. The free student counseling is attracting the most number of high school students. The exhibition is expected to be visited by more than 50,000 visitors.
