“Sky as the canvas and clouds as the color.” This is what Dr. Rajesh Gautam, a professor of history and writer of over two dozen books, prefers to describe his paintings of clouds.
Dr. Gautam, who had revealed his talent in painting through an exhibition ‘Me And My Sky’ two years ago, has come out with a painting of clouds ‘Melody of Clouds’ now.
He has captured different forms and colors of clouds in the twenty paintings exhibited at Buddha Art Gallery from September 15. The clouds painted on the canvas with green, yellow, black, blue and other colors give a soothing feeling to the viewers. As the clouds change their forms in the sky, the clouds in the painting, too, give the perception of different forms according to the mood of the viewer.
Dr. Gautam’s use of color and forms has made some of the paintings very lively. They appear to be moving as though they were real clouds. Likewise, the view of the clouds when the rays of the sun pass through them has been perfectly captured with the blend and the highs and lows of colors.
Dr. Gautam as an artist seems to be very influenced by the sky and the clouds. “I can find my feelings in the sky,” he said. “The sky serves me as a canvas and the clouds as the colors.”
Dr. Gautam is a professor of history and has written several books on history and other themes. In his mid fifties now, Dr. Gautam ventured into painting only two years ago. What inclined him towards art at this age? “The thought of the idleness in my retired life has started to bother me,” he explains. “Writing could not give me the euphoria I expected,” adds Dr. Gautam explaining his urge to engage in art.
Yet, to a normal viewer, his paintings are not just pieces created to use the spare time in a creative way. But, they expose his innate talent towards painting. Dr. Gautam’s venture towards art is an encouragement to the entire art fraternity as the viewers can expect many masterpieces from Dr. Gautam’s brushes and color palette in the days to come.
