The
Fulbari Resort, Pokhara:Your home away from home The Fulbari Resort in Pokhara has been recently awarded the Five Star Luxury Hotel status by the Nepalese government which was simply long over due. With this new grading the Fulbari can now boast of being the first luxury hotels in Nepal outside the Kathmandu valley. To recall, the Fulbari Resort is the dream and concept of a noted industrialist and entrepreneur- Piyush Bahadur Amatya who hails from an established Newar family of Kathmandu. "A particularly beautiful sight in Pokhara enthralled me a couple of years back and since that very particular moment I begun thinking on materializing this concept-the concept being the construction of this Resort", said the Chairman of this Resort Mr. Amatya to the Telegraph prior to his departure to Tokyo early this week. He ultimately bought more than 80 acres of the wide farmland to build his dream project that has finally become the largest property of its kind in Pokhara, and the only Resort of international standard in Nepal. That was more than 10 years ago, recalls Amatya. Beginning August this year the Hotel management at the highest level has personally taken initiatives aimed at the promotion of their business by establishing Fulbari offices in Bangkok and very recently in Delhi, the Indian capital. "By and large, Indian tourists count much for the promotion of Hotel business in Nepal as they comprise a sizeable chunk of the total tourists who land Nepal for pleasure or for that matter business matters", added Amatya. This fact prompted me to introduce my dream project, that is already there, to the Indian people and in this regard the Nepalese embassy in New Delhi supported me to the extent possible last month. Royal Nepalese Ambassador Dr. B.B.Thapa arranged a gala evening at the embassy premises. Besides this the Resort has a plan to establish a marketing office in Tokyo, Osaka, Calcutta and Mumbai. The Nepalese word fulbari means "flower garden". Thus, The fulbari Resort is the cultural manifestation of ancient Kathmandu in Nature-endowed Pokhara. According to a popular legend, this very land was a regular rendezvous of the gods and goddesses of the Western Himalaya of Nepal. They would descend, as the story goes, down from their lofty mountain abode for their seasonal congregation here. They would sing, dance, have fun and frolic on this meadow. Then they would descend down the Seti Gorge to visit the nether world. Early October, the Fulbari has launched three additional facilities in its huge complex. They are a Japanese restaurant, a discotheque and a health farm and beauty spa. Those who have been to Fulbari and have enjoyed the eye catching scenic beauties of the Pokhara valley and more specially that of the mighty Machapuchhre mountain (fishtail) not for nothing compare this complex with Raj Bilash of Jaipur, Aman Puri and Bunyan Tree in Indonesia and Leela Panta in Goa, India. Among the many surprises at the Fulbari that awaits the tourists, a nine hole Golf course, tennis court and snooker room(s) only add to the glory of the hotel which caters to the needs of the incoming sport-tourists. The grand opening of the Nine-Cloud Casino is in the offing. "My dream-project is smoothly heading towards progress. I hope that Pokhara will soon become a center where tourists, regional seminarians, scholars and the likes will prefer to spend some time forgetting their worldly stress and strains", concluded Mr. Amatya. |
