Cat is out of bag!
The main opposition in the present Lower House of
the Nepalese Parliament, the UML, has opened the Pandora's box by initiating a program
that primarily and most necessarily should have come from the ruling government. Well, as
answerable citizens of this corruption-ridden nation, we yell the process initiated by the
main opposition but then we sharply differ with the manner the communist party wished to
expose the very names of the purported corrupts of the nation. In doing so, the UML has
indicated to all and sundry that should the situation demand, they can acquire the posture
of self-proclaimed judges and will decide the cases in a manner that suited them most.
This might be followed by their unilateral action against the supposed corrupts caring
little perhaps about the laws and the authorities in place in the land for taking penal
actions in such events. This ultimately would mean that the authorities of the government
would be best used by the opposition and that too in a manner, as mentioned above, that
suited them politically. As is the normal practice, such events are organised and should
be organised in a democratic system such as ours when the ruling government displays its
leniency in penalising the declared corrupts. More so such actions should possess some
ingredients of legitimacy. However, in the case of the UMLs present move, the legitimacy
part was simply missing which led to conclude that the whole process initiated by the
party that is the UML was a calculated plan to damage the dignity and the popularity of
the persons with whom the party either did not enjoy "my dear" relations or were
from the opposite camps. Notably, most of the persons declared as deceitful have
outrightly rejected the UMLs notification that dubs them as corrupts. Some have even
openly told that prior to the declaration some big-wigs of the UML had approached them
through telephones and had asked financial funding if they wished to get their names
dropped from the list of the praetorians. If this is true then the UML leaders must
clarify their own financial characters first prior to proceeding in maligning others.
Doubts could also be raised regarding the current financial capabilities of the leaders of
the party, which initiated this noble practice, that began with cipher practically when
they had joined the system only ten years ago. People in the vicinity who have been
watching their leaders' newly acquired status go to the extent in saying that most of the
leaders now manning the system at the moment possesses not even enough money for two meals
a day. This disproportionate amount acquired during these ten years, understandably
through foul means in most of the cases perhaps, by our "most respected leaders"
must be investigated so that one gets the true picture of who were what then and who has
become what now. Without passing any negative comments to the UML leaders what is
advisable to the government of the day is that a very powerful commission be constituted
at the earliest which goes deep into the supposed corrupt practices of our leaders and
initiate penal actions of the highest order and let the people know who were what and who
is what now.
Now that the cat is out of the bag what major
impacts it would have upon other parties or how the rest of the parties will take this
UML's endeavour will be carefully watched. Consider what would happen if parties other
than the UML too begin exposing the UML leaders who at time of theirs being in power were
talked to have indulged in acts of corruption. A quick look at the newspapers politically
not affiliated to the UML would perhaps give an inkling into the acts of corruption
commissioned by a set of UML leaders while being in government at different intervals of
time and coalition partners. Not all, but then a set of communist leaders are still talked
to have amassed astronomical amount of wealth whose earnings prior to becoming the
minister does not seemingly conform to their present Royal status. Sages and saints not
for nothing have said that a person who is living in a house made up of glass should not
throw stones at others' mansions built of the same material that is glass again. This
saying is loaded with clear message. Talking of corruption prevailing in our society what
could be fairly said is that only the degree of corruption could vary. Being in power and
coming out unscathed is simply a tall claim indeed. The underlying message is loud and
clear.
Finally, we admire the efforts of the UML in
exposing the corrupts who are eating the economic stamina of the nation. Let us hope that
this process is copied by other parties as well so that the national population could know
who the corrupts are currently holding powerful positions in a particular party or the
other. However, care must be taken that blaming for revenge sake would perhaps invite
anarchy
