2nd SECOND IMPRESSION

Swami Chandresh and his sincere love for Nepal’s hapless children

I’m a Hindu Brahmin undoubtedly, however, this should not mean that I am a fundamentalist. It is not that. I recall, when I first came to continue my further studies in Kathmandu, right close in the vicinity of my educational institution, Trichandra College, there was and is still situated the Muslim mosques. I can’t explain why my heads automatically went down in respect to the God, whom the Muslims call Allah, every time when I passed over that lane. This I did during my several trips to Europe. I have entered the Churches with my Christian friends and have enjoyed the "mass" and the "sermons" with equal devotion, as I possess for my own religion. I do not possess any hatred against any other religion. For I’m told that the final destination where we all have to proceed sooner or later is the same. However, the process or the roads leading to that particular destination perhaps is different. So what is the harm in it when people from different religion practice their faith differently.

This notwithstanding, I rarely go to saints and sages to listen to their "philosophical lectures" as my own philosophy has been that you yourselves possess two different instincts: good and bad. If one practices good one, the results definitely are good and vice versa. This is not to undermine the "sensitizing and meaningful" lectures of the sages and the saints that have at least been guiding the ways of the human beings to enjoy peace, tranquility and later understand the relation that exists in between the "soul" and the Almighty.

This Saturday, I happened to meet Chandresh Swami who currently resides in the outskirts of Budha Nil Kanth- Lond Bishnu who is lying in the Shesh Naag in a sleeping mood. Chandresh is a personality from Calcutta who preferred to settle in Nepal as back as some three decades plus. This he did in search of peace and tranquillity which he claims to have attained through the uninterrupted "meditation" which the "highly qualified" saint cum scholar accomplished in the mountainous heights of Sivapuri range. His stint here for two decades plus perhaps was rewarding for him as it offered to the versatile preacher an opportunity to understand nature, look deep into one’s inner-self and understand spiritualism in whatever form he could understand it.

Me and my wife and Mr.Subash Pokhrel who is currently the General Manager of the state owned Himal Cement Factory, listened to his philosophy of life, duties of the human beings towards the society and the nation, the grand effects on the body and soul that meditation offered to the practitioner, and much more about various seen and unseen aspects of the Almighty and his possible advent in the world in the form of an incarnation.

We listened to his lecture spell bound. Nothing serious had been to debate as our knowledge in these regards were undoubtedly minimal.

He possesses profound knowledge in this field, this I could notice during my three hours stay at his "ASHRAM". I was told that people belonging to various disciplines used to visit him with their queries. Nepalese political leaders too were his disciples. However, what interested me most were his coming to Nepal and initiating the basic infrastructure for a higher secondary school for the less privileged children of that area. Notably, the school that is running in full swing has a good number of students who possess no means to pay their tuition fees. The service, albeit an exemplary one, which he has been doing for the hapless and the hopeless children of Nepalese society must come as a slap in the face of those Nepalese leaders who currently were busy in eating the flesh of their own mother-mother Nepal. This noble act of Swami Chandresh should also be seen in the light that an Indian comes to Nepal and accepts this country as his own and vows to dedicate the rest of his life here in the service of this nation. Shame on us all. Shame us on the leader who day in day out lecture us on morality.

A sincere effort never gets unrecorded. The saint’s efforts made in this regard have definitely been rewarded. Some kind hearted Nepalese and some powerful donors like, Denmark, Germany and the likes have contributed for the expansion of the school as envisioned by this distinguished saint. He needs more support from tenderhearted personalities so that he could give a concrete shape to his final dream that is the school. This write up has been dedicated in the name of this scholarly saint whose sole aim, it appeared to me, was to educate the Nepalese children and remind them of their rich culture, heritage, philosophy and the religion as well which apparently were being side lined in the present day world of modernization. Any interested Nepali or foreign missions or some international donors who feel happy in extending donations for such charitable schemes could extend their support in any form, which suits them most. However, there is no pressure. We do not believe in exerting pressures in any form. Those who are interested in supporting this noble educational institution are most welcome.

My salute to you thee a saint from foreign land who possess this kind of attachment for our children which in essence should have been a Nepali problem.
