-With malice to none- Contradictory views regarding the origin of leg pulling acts
Nepalese researchers possess different and some time conflicting views regarding the origin of leg pulling acts. Some say this we have duplicated from neighboring countries. Others forcefully say that the leg pulling business in essence since time immemorial flourished in this part of South Asia more so in this Himalayan Kingdom and hence we the Nepalese must be proud of the legacy that fortunately was very much kicking and alive here. However, there is yet another set of Nepalese researchers of international standing which very authentically concludes that this leg pulling business in effect began with the inception of the Nepali Congress party some fifty five years back. I do not know what others have to say regarding the origin and the practicing of this act, but I see point in the last theory which point blank gives credit to the congress party for maintaining, nourishing and propagating the plus points of the leg pulling acts.
In sum and substance, leg pulling is a time-tested phenomenon that keeps every thing in balance. It possesses the miraculous power of effecting a check and balance system, which keeps every thing under control. It is this act that takes care of a person who suddenly feels under illusion that he has attained a certain height and that others below him were more or less inferior to him. At this juncture the leg pulling process is to be tactfully applied which upon timely application brings the person in his former perspective and size. Some times it even cuts down the size of the person under hallucination. Even Hindu parables possess some thrilling stories wherein the Almighty (and at times the trinity-Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva combined) has used this tact to cool down the heightened temperaments of his devotees. This automatically should convince us all that the leg pulling act is not the fresh creation of the congress alone rather this party appears to have copied from what their Hindu Gods practiced in different intervals of time to tame their devotees. When Gods had given continuity to this act then what is wrong if the congress and others practice it today? However, what could be surely said here is that the congress has kept the act of leg pulling alive which has spread in other parties as well. Slowly but very steadily the rest of the smaller parties too appear to have got the point in this act of leg pulling. Chances are bright that they too would assimilate this noble act into their life styles. After all good things are copied. Keep it up guys! As one of the protector of the old tradition, the Nepalese people must thank the party and pray the Almighty to offer them courage and patience so that they could give continuity to this noble practice. Understandably, the coming generations will enjoy this practice handed over to them by their forefathers belonging to the congress camp and lately by the UML and the RPP wallahs. Thanks to the charismatic role of the leg-pulling acts that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba could not continue for more than eighteen months in the countrys executive chair. Interestingly, the leg pullers belonged to his own party who felt that the chair must remain moving so that other competent ones could get a chance. Perhaps it is less painful if some one from within pulls the leg. Sounds good. The current Prime minister very efficiently and daringly gave continuity to this process only some five months back. When all other avenues Koirala found closed for Bhattarais ouster, he was suddenly reminded of this time-tested leg-pulling act. Thanks the act worked very efficiently and lo! The process of transfer of power went smoothly and he is enjoying the Premiership since then. Interestingly, a set of congress enthusiasts more so the ardent followers of leg pulling process, have engineered the same tact for the ouster of the incumbent Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. However, till today, the act has not accomplished its charismatic role. Time permitting things will settle and the act of leg pulling will surely get continuity. Let us all contribute to this process from our respective sides so that in due course of time the Guinness book of world records gloriously includes the name of Nepal as the last country in the globe where leg pulling still survives with equal dignity and honor as at time of its inception. Never forget your culture, religion and practices. The first ever-new generation Cathlab in the private sector will soon be installed at Norvic-Escorts Health Care and Research Centre, Kathmandu.
