The real story of cheats and cheaters The story based on facts is simple but yet exposes the very working style of our bureaucrats more so those who work under the home ministry. Two jailed persons from Birganj prison cell are transferred to Kathmandu central prison house. Such transfers are considered to be a regular process. Of the two, Mr. A upon his Kathmandu arrival is all set to be freed as his jail terms have already come to an end. Sources said Mr. A is a perfectly gentleman. Then comes Mr. B who has yet to remain under the bars in Kathmandu for more four years. Comparatively speaking, Mr. B is a very cunning man. In the process of being sent to Kathmandu from Birganj, the two fortunately were provided the same vehicle. Now the climax begins. Mr. B-the cunning man, during his trips to Kathmandu some how or the other seduces his accompanying colleague Mr. A to change their very good names upon reaching the final destination that is Kathmandu. Mr. A was given various lucrative proposals by Mr. B that upon his release from the jail he would take care of Mr. Bs family members. An illiterate or a perfectly gentleman Mr. B complies with his friends personal request and does accordingly. At the very gate of Kathmandu jail, the two enter the cell together and change their names. The jail authorities took them accordingly and next morning released Mr. B for good. Rumors have it that Mr. B has neither met the family members of Mr. A as per the promise made to the latter on way to Kathmandu nor he has wished to contact the cheated soft soul in jail. Now the whole question revolves around the functioning of the jail administration in Nepal. Normally, the jailed persons are being transferred to other jails with police escorts. The man escorting the convicts perhaps is given the details of the men being transferred. Understandably, the accompanying police official recognize the faces of the convicts with their private names or is given the photographs later to be submitted at the delivery end. Surprising of it all is the utter neglect exhibited by the sending end regarding the transfer of the two jail inmates to Kathmandu. How it could be that two men having different faces and ethnic castes could not be recognized by the receiving end here. Consider the complexion of the two different souls, which should have definitely been different. Yet why the receiving end did not consider this hidden but yet the existing fact. In fact, the whole gameplan appears to have been devised by the jail authorities right in Birganj in lieu of some hefty amount. The receiving end also demands penal action as it accepted the two persons without studying the details of the new members. An impartial probe will perhaps expose the men behind this drama that very much resembles Indian films. Chances are, however, bright for the person who exhibited his presence of mind and got himself changed with the one who was less intelligent for joining the Nepali politics. Undoubtedly, if he joins the politics perhaps would show his face in the parliament. However, which of the Nepali political parties will greet this personality is still unpredictable. The common men will love to see such guys in our parliament and would wish to learn the "improved" art of "cheating". (Story based on a news item printed by Kantipur daily some two weeks back-NPU). |
