2nd SECOND IMPRESSION

Nepal: Land of brilliant ideas

Nepal is a land of opportunities. It is also a fertile land for criminals and smugglers. Undeniably, this land of the temples has in the recent years been dubbed as also the land of duffer politicians. These are the politicians who once upon a time believed in chopping the heads of those innocent civilians who in their eyes were "exploiters". It is altogether a different matter that these sets of special breed of politicians now have become themselves exploiters and warrants almost the same treatment from the civilians. There is yet another set of leaders who believe in talking much and indeed they talk with finesse. It is again, as a matter of fact, a different matter that the common men now do not take them seriously. The common people have taken this set of political leaders as somewhat close to the Maoists. This special breed of talkative leaders once upon a time wished to overthrow the monarchy through the use of arms and ammunitions. In effect, this party has already bagged the distinction of hijacking a Nepali airliner to neighbouring India and the money that the aircraft was carrying to Kathmandu is yet missing. The engineer of the hijack is currently the foreign minister of this country whose case is still pending in Bihar court.

The third set of politicians is a lucky one. In essence, it is this set which mercilessly ruled the country for well over thirty plus years and that too in the name of the King. The 1990 movement displaced them from the political scene. This set almost went for hibernation for fear of being manhandled by the champions of the movement. However, the nonsensical behaviour of the men manning the present system, the former set of the politicians were turn-wise invited by the congress and the communists’ to rule the country. Thus S.B.Thapa and L.B.Chand took over the mantle of power for altogether a year or more than that. This exhibited the sheer incompetence of the congress and the communists in so far as the steering the nation concerned. By this time the population save those who benefit from this system has already condemned these two parties. No body believes their utterances even if it were made for the people. Just imagine the disgust the common people possess for these politicians. Let us include in this category the third set of the political party as well.

Every Indian film has a joker who makes the spectators to laugh. In my opinion our leaders could act like jokers in Indian films and thus earn some IC. The joker in the film is never serious. His job is to entertain the people. Because he has to make others laugh so he does the needful and for that he is paid. Because he is a joker and thus no body takes him seriously. This is the case in Nepal. No sensible people take these leaders seriously. Thus runs our democracy.

By way of reference, our leaders talk tall things. For example, one leader said that we could export electricity to China through the effective use of the satellite. Other offered a brilliant idea. The idea was regarding making water available to Kathmandu population from the much-publicised mega Melamchi river project. The idea later made known to us was that since bringing of the water from that particular river could take decades and decades so to ease this problem the people of the valley be shifted in and around the banks of the Melamchi river. The idea got accolades from the entire population. For it has rightly been said that a thirsty person must approach the source of the water instead of the source coming down to the thirsty guy.

Perhaps the government is working in this line. The idea is brilliant indeed. Highly qualified intellectuals are hereby requested to offer such non-paying ideas to the Nepalese leaders, which will not only entertain the nation but would also ease the governments’ burden.

After all a democratic set up have some duties towards its citizens. It is yet another matter that a sizeable chunk of the population does not understand what was democracy and for whom it had its landing in this country.
