Prizes for best written and electronic media coverage of the UN

Subject: UNCA -New York/Prizesfor best written and electronic media coverage of the UN and its Agencies

Dear Resident Representative, I want to take this opportunity to inform you that the UN Correspondents.

Association (UNCA) in New York has announced its sixth annual prizes for best written and electronic media coverage of the United Nations and its agencies, and also the first UNCA/Ranan Lurie Award for Political Cartoons.

UNCA offers $2,000 gold, $1,000 silver and $500 bronze awards for best written and electronic media coverage, and the costs of the first prize winners trip to New York will be met by the Association if necessary. The political cartoons are $10,000 first prize, $5,000 second prize, $3,000 third prize and ten honorable mention plaques. The awards are open to all journalists anywhere in the world, in any media, for the best books, stories, radio or TV programmes or series covering the UN and its agencies published in the 12 months before 1 August 2000. The deadline for submissions is 1 August. I would like to suggest that your office circulate the enclosed press release to journalists in your area or with whom you have relationships to encourage their participation.
