2nd SECOND IMPRESSION

A tale of falsely implicated mediaman

One noted dacoit in Janakpur is apprehended by the local police. The dacoit tells the police upon interrogation that the three naught three country made Pistol under his possession was simply meant for one Prem Nath Joshi who resides in Kathmandu.

Upon this revelation and without needed proper investigation, the local chief district officer in Janakpur issues a letter in the name of the Kathmandu police and instantly a notification warranting the attention of the inadvertently accused person in Lazimpat is pasted at the very entrance of his house. The person thus accused becomes pretty nervous and consults his friends. In fact the person thus falsely accused is a social worker of highest standing and concurrently edits a newspaper whose name happened to be Prem Nath Joshi.

Joshi, a very old friend of mine is my dear person. This impression others also subscribe about him. During the Panchayat days he used to chair one Journalists forum and had accomplished some marvelous jobs for the betterment of the media men of the nation. He is a political scientist.

Last week he came to see me. During the meeting, he told me all about how he was falsely implicated in this case. Listening to his narration and considering the highhandedness of the police I suggested him to meet his old colleagues in the media sector and seek their joint support in defending his case.

Joshi has been assured total and unconditional support from his professional colleagues including the Federation of Nepalese Journalists.   The media men must help save the prestige of journo Joshi as some other time it would be another media man being implicated in some pretext or the other.

The interesting part of the whole story is that how the police personnel could paste the notification in his house without proper investigation. There could be some more persons with this name. Also, the police must not apprehend a social worker simply because criminals shift their crime onto others. In essence, the police should have done proper home work in this regard and if found guilty the notification should have been served.

Joshi currently is visiting door to door to seek assistance from the Human Rights Organizations and is pleading his real innocence. It is perhaps time that the international humanitarian institutions including the residential western democracies who day in day out champion the cause of the human rights must impress upon the government to withdraw Joshi's case so that the falsely accused person lives a tension free life and contributes to the consolidation of the system now in force. Take it easy Mr. Joshi.
