It was the people and the people alone who suffered most during the erstwhile regime. It was this set of common denizens which had to gulp the hatred meted out to them by the now collapsed regime. Moreover, it was this group of the marginalised section of the society which had to console through the state owned and controlled news broadcast that some package were coming to their door steps which in essence never approached for it were all fake assurances from the side of the powers that be then. Most unfortunately, it is the same set of people who have contributed to the further swelling of the men falling below poverty line which has once more been deceived and shamefully cheated by the new set of rulers who claim themselves to be the messiah of democracy and the system as well. It is this bunch of the deaf and the dumb set of common men who have been forced to gulp the rampant corruption at the higher echelons of the political hierarchy, incompetent and duffer politicized bureaucracy and the stale lectures of the so called leaders of the country who day in and day out have been consoling the people that next moment their fortunes will take a dramatic turn. However, in the process the leaders who make such false speeches have albeit made their fortunes at the cost of the teeming millions. Shame on them. Shame on their farce lectures. It is every time the common men who in a democratic system like ours exhibit their grievances demanding their due redress from the establishment. The people continue to air their plight through the media and their representatives in government or even through the use of the pressure groups such as the civil societies if the men manning the system are not hearing their voices. Finally when their genuine demands are neglected by the establishment for long, they apparently decide to join the bands of the terrorists, sympathize with the insurgents and the unemployed lot which out of frustration join the club of the drug addicts and many more evils. It should be the governments primary duty to listen to the peoples voices. It has not for nothing been said that VOX POPULI, VOX DEI whose literal meaning is the voice of the people is the voice of God. However, in our case it is completely absent. Instead the government listens to the voices of those who fall under the category of the privileged ones and also of those who remain close to the establishment. Albeit, the government listens to the voices of those parliamentarians who demand increased perks and facilities including pensions and the most (in) famous Pajero/Prado vehicles and that too at the cost of the national exchequer. It is in this light the fresh Sahana Pradhans utterances should be taken for consideration. The fire brand leader of the ML only last week surprised many a brains in Kathmandu when she indirectly "appealed" the constitutional Monarch to assess the deteriorating situation in the country and take the "extra-systemic" measures to do away with the aberrations that have cropped of late sue to the mishandling of the system itself by the men manning the system. Her speech also hinted the Monarch to initiate dialogues rather meaningful ones with leaders of various political parties and arrive at a conclusion as to what could be done to arrest the ever deteriorating situation of the country and act accordingly as per the provisions enshrined in the constitution for the constitutional monarch. The fact is that Mrs. Sahana Pradhan chairs a party which has no representation in the current parliament. In other words she and her party were in the footpath like many other common Nepali citizens who possess no say in the current scheme of things in the country. However, the fact is also that Mrs. Pradhan belongs to that special privileged lot which "negotiated" a "compromise" with the then active monarch for the proclamation of this multi-party order some twelve years back-to be more precise 1990 April 8 late evening. Those who recall Sahanas voice which were more or less like that of a roaring lioness and had not too many good words for the Monarch then suddenly appeals the constitutional monarch to asserts His Role and do the needful. There is no denying that she has spoken the voices of those lay men who have been airing their concern demanding redress from the establishment. She has amply made it clear that the nation was treading in a path, which lead to the brink if not checked on time. However, the fact is also that she has apparently spoken the so-called "peoples voice" in order to garner peoples sympathies for a party which is perhaps no where in todays political scene or at best is lost in the midst of the hullabaloo of the more dominant political actors such as the congress and the communists. Whether the former "lioness" has spoken in favor of the people from her internal hearts or were simply her outbursts of "frustration" of being "marginalised" by the political mainstream will perhaps take some time to ascertain. If not then what could be those factors which prompted her to pronounce such statements, which are not generally liked by those, who were ruling the roost out of this system? Has she really changed herself from the 1990 days or is it that she is honestly speaking the peoples voice. Who else could answer these questions other than the former lioness? However, there is one more leader that has come in favor of peoples grievances. Whether this is real or a mere drama to bag peoples lost sympathies will also take some time to come to the open.
