Now it's turn of Chinese airliner procurement!

Things as it stands today in Nepal if continues for yet another fifteen days or so, the entire picture of the nation will be presumably different. Prime Minister Koirala's arrogance is becoming more and more expensive to the nation. By the same token it could be fairly said of the entire opposition that their demand too were pushing the nation to the precipice. It is these two separate sets of differences in two different quarters that is killing the nation from within and without. While the forty eight days long stalemate has paralyzed the entire fabric of the nation, it concurrently has been making a joke at the system for the restoration of which many a precious lives had to be sacrificed. However, it is altogether a different matter that the sacrifices were made by the common men, who have been summarily sidelined in the present order from day one till to date. Frankly speaking, no kith and kins of the present day leaders suffered even a slight injury during the forty nine days saga that forced the erstwhile regime to collapse and facilitated the present day dispensation. Those who lost their relatives were definitely from the stock of the common men, which is usual during such movements of the sort what we had in 1990s. However, the fact is that those who lost their lives are not even remembered instead those who were outside the country have been ruling the roost at the moment.

While such phenomenon have become the order of the day, what is more shocking is the fact that the set of leaders who claim to be the champions of the present day order have shamefully paralyzed the parliament through their immature activities. If the congress Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is considered that he is the source of all the evils in Nepal, then it could equally be said that the opposition parties too have remained instrumental in nurturing the evils thus brought about by the former. In the eyes of the lay men, both the sets, the ruling and the opposition- were as corrupt as any thing and that the people have the reasons to criticize their unhealthy and undemocratic exercises to what they have been shamefully exhibiting since forty five days or so. The past one and a half months in the history of Nepali politics could well be considered as black days and nights for it is this period that has sent totally negative frustrating and disgusting signals in the minds of the all time beleaguered majority of the silent population. If this frustrated lot knowingly or even unknowingly join the April 6 and 8 demonstrations sponsored by the Maoists and the entire opposition then the consequences could well be predicted in advance. When no state machinery comes to the rescue of the teeming millions for years and years then the latter might opt for a dangerous course and if they opt for such a course should be taken as to be have been forced to do so by the continued negligence of the establishment towards this totally frustrated lot.

The government under Koirala has not only miserably failed to deliver but has also been rated as non-performing government. More so this establishment has been dubbed as the most corrupt among the governments formed after the advent of the new order in the country. Fortunately this time the opposition has taken up the cases of corruption very seriously and thus have set an unprecedented precedent that henceforth no minister or for that matter the prime minister will be spared if found guilty in such corrupt practices. Most fortunately the Public Accounts Committee too has apparently activated itself and has duly initiated interrogations of the officials involved in the procurement of the China South West Airlines during the period of the Communist rule in the nation some four years back. The interrogations held so far hint at the fact that the UML and its leaders then manning the government that time could have committed blunders and hence chances were brighter that some ministers of the UML who remained instrumental in procuring the Chinese airliners at an inflated rate could be penalised much the same manner as prime minister Koirala is being dragged in the Lauda affair. If this does happen then the lay men will be able to witness yet another airliner drama. However, it is not yet certain that how the UMLs opposition that is the congress will take up the matter. Will the congress publicize the Chinese airliner case to the same degree as the UML have exhibited in the Lauda case? It will have to be watched.

Be that as it may, the nation is at a stand till. No business in the bureaucracy. No business in the ministries. No development works. Talks of corruption and only corruption prevailed every where. The tragedy has been that those who have been dragged under the charges of corruption at the moment were none less than the champions of the 1990 popular movement.
