Modest suggestion to Comrade Prachanda The manner the Maoists cadre(s) appear to be almost in a mood to terrorize the industrial-business Houses across the country through their acts of forced extortion perhaps could well be the beginning of theirs, to put it mildly, going down in the eyes of the common men. The process of extortion acquired by the cadres belonging to the Maoists insurgency has definitely made the lay men suspect of the very motives and the intentions of the top ranking leaders of the insurgency. While we believe that leaders of the sorts of Comrade Prachanda and Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai would have strictly warned their cadres at the very grass roots not to compel the people, more so the businessmen of the nation, for going in for such an unwarranted-unacceptable forced measures, however, the fact is that the Maoists cadres were on the rampage causing panic among the business community all over the country. The impact of this panic mixed with terror has awfully been felt at the level of the general mass who till the other day had more or less a sort of sympathy and regard for the Maoists insurgency albeit by default. The government's total inaction and mal-governance coupled with acts of Himalayan corruption at the highest political levels over these so-called "democratic years" has had definitely contributed significantly in shifting people's faith from the side of the establishment onto the insurgency. However, the fact had also been that the people though admired some of the social aspects, read the reforms doing away with the existing social evils in the villages of Nepal, of the insurgency did not mean that they were all along with the insurgency on their violent methods acquired at times to tame the government. Majority of the Nepali mass is still a peace-loving lot. This perhaps the Maoists leaders' understand better for they too were the sons of the same soil which possesses a track record of observing to the principles of peace and that too unconditional. For a system to last long definitely required ultimately the people's support. Unless the people functionally and that too affirmatively participate in the continuing system, the system does not or can't operate and hence it is the people whose support finally counts for the existence of a particular system or even of an altogether a new system that apparently, for example, the Maoists' insurgency conceive at the moment. In essence, if it is the people whose support the Maoists insurgency apparently wish to bag for all time to come for their insurgency to take roots in the nation then they must desert the acts that have of late been terrifying the common men. Acts of extortion and that too under tremendous pressure will definitely erode the sympathies what ever the people possess for them till the other day. The people by and large prefer to live in a society that is free from pressures and is people friendly in terms of shelter, security and the rest of the basics that were most common in a democratic societies of the world. The people will not tolerate acts of pressures and that too under threats onto their lives and properties whether it comes either from the existing government of Deuba or for that matter from the Maoists quarters who presumably visualize to make Nepal a wonderland albeit of their own sort. It should be clear to the Maoists leaders' that it were the people who at the very grass roots either did not understood the meaning of democracy or it were the Himalayan fault of the leaders manning today's system that they never cared for bringing in the effective participation of the people for the consolidation of the existing system which apparently caused disillusionment among the masses about the system itself. This ultimately alienated the system-leaders from the common masses to the extent that a majority of the people at the moment possesses disregard for the system itself. Luckily the leaders of the insurgency got the point and cashed in on this blunder of the leaders operating the system now in place. It is high time that the top hats of the Maoists insurgency tame their cadres so that the people, be in the villages or in the capital district, could live a life that is due to them in this modern world. Predictably, if the top rung leaders' of the insurgency fail in taming their cadres at this juncture then what could be presumably guessed is that the cadres thus engaged in extortion practices either have become rebellion or the firm grip of Comrade Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai over their own organization have already become too weak. Let us believe that the two top hats continue to enjoy the same respect and honor from their junior level cadres of the insurgency. It is always very easy to frighten the common men. However, winning their hearts is albeit difficult task indeed. It is up to the insurgency now to decide which way they should go in order to win the hearts of the common citizenry including the business community of the nation: through the use of coercion or otherwise. They don't have many options.
