Dear Editor: I can understand the concerns of scholars of the like of Harka Gurung and Dahal jee. I can visualize the context of their opinion. It has been looked at with the perspective of the unification of Nepal started by Prithivi Narayan Shah. That unification process has not been completed and will not be complete unless and until a National agenda is approved by all the movers and shakers of the country in a democratic way to benefit the victors and the vanquished. As long as a genuine reconciliation has not been achieved between the victor and the vanquished a true spirit of cooperation and peace cannot prevail in Nepal. As long as we continue to hark on the unification theme it invokes the memories of the victor and the vanquished among us all. First and foremost the Unification of Nepal is in our past and we should erase it completely from our mind. A new beginning is a must for all Nepalese now and in the future. A new mind set is a must for all of us. We are living in the 21st century and the challenges are many and opportunities galore! We live in a complex environment. Furthermore, we are a part of the world community. No one person has to have the answer to all of Nepal's problems. If we cannot solve the problems by ourselves, we should seek the help of the world community. That is what friends are for. I can assure you that there are many wonderful friends of Nepal all over the globe that are more than willing to help out. I applaud the political scholars for the expression of their genuine opinions. Similarly, I am expressing my own opinion. Tika Thapa |
